I've been working on this since the debate (the VP debate, yes that long ago!) and am finally ready to stick a fork in it, or him.
No real politically motivated reason for choosing the Senator as a subject, just thought he wasn't getting much attention. . .
Please comment and critique, I need to hear constructive criticism to progress so don't hold back!

| This looks really good. I could instantly tell who it was, but it's also got some good exaggeration, so it's not just a portrait. My only suggestion would be to touch up the area around the collar, and tie. You've put so much detail into the face and hair and that all looks like a finished product. I think touching up the collar/neck/tie area would make the whole piece look very polished.

Thanks very much Russell!
Yep, you got me. I got caught up in another project and wanted to finish this one up. I kind of rushed the shirt and tie. I may have to revisit and bring the same level of detail to those areas.
Thanks again for the comment!

Yup... good likeness. The hair is excellent! Yeah, maybe make the collar wrap around a little vs just stick straight back. Still, this is good stuff Ian.

Thanks very much Mike! And good point about the collar. Didn't see that at all.
OK, keep em coming! Looks like I should revisit so if anybody else has a change to put in bring it on.

Looks great man! The face is great it's definitely him man. Think the hand just needs to be brought to the same finish, unless you blur the hand layer. Great work though. Sometimes you know when you've nailed it if you have his voice playing in the back and they match up. Odd thing really but I do it sometimes to see if the face goes with the voice. Yours is spot on!

| That's great Ian. I like the cliff-like drop from the top of his forehead to chin and chest, and the slope back the other way. Like a glacier!

nice ian, i think i agree with most of the above crits, especially on evening out the level of rendering. however, it's a great likeness and some great exaggeration.

Oh Wow! Tom, Maritze, Bangalore thanks guys for the comments. I really appreciate the positive feedback! That's a big boost to the ego, I like it. Means a lot coming from you all. I will have to get back to him and further the less rendered places.
I may leave the hand soft. I was going for a bit of a selective focus feel with the hand being blurry, trying to lessen the depth of field. Plus, my main reference photo had a blurry hand. . .
Thanks again
Ian

I got a chance today to go back and work in some of the suggestions. I think it helped and I'm glad ya'll pushed me to keep going with it. I've rendered his collar and tie a little more and fixed his collar and neck juncture. I hope that it helps.
EDIT: I replaced the original pic. . .
Thanks for the honest critiques guys!

looks great. one small thing. the shadow on the collar is very sharp, dome kind of lighter grey should really enhance it. the hand works great. Brilliant caricature man. you know immediately who it is!
