Reminds me of those superhero spin-offs from "Dexter" and "Monkey", I like

| I think I may like this, I at least really like the style...it makes me think of the dick sprang segment James Tucker storyboarded for that batman animated series episode

They look great - I like the fifties vibe. I'll be watching!

wow, i saw this going in
a totally different direction.
very tuckerish, in a good way!
although "bold and brave" sounds
like a soap-opera parody, i'm
sure they could come up with
something better.
if this is what i think it is, the stories
should also be a nice departure from
the usual.

I really dig that image, but it's weird that they have Golden Age Green Arrow costume on the left, and then super-high tech Cully Hamner-designed Blue Beetle on the right. He feels kind of incongruous to the other two heroes there.

Looks pretty cool!
Did someone from the Board here work on this? It kinda has a Howard Shum/Uloo feel to it...what really catches my eye is Blue Beetles planted hand. The way the fingers pop up just feels familiar.

i think it's really cool that they're using the name, actually. it was the name of DC's team-up book

andrew - nope. still a silly name
gobukan - those hands are definitely
uloo-ish. i actually did "work" on it,
although my designs were rejected.
i'm building up quite an impressive
record!

I'm sure The Brave and the Bold wasn't hokey-sounding when it was created back in the 50s. I like it, too.

I'm with you, Brad. I can only assume DC fears stunting
the growth of its (relatively) newborn Beetle franchise.
I do definitely dig this.
Suits my sensibilities, yes.

Would love to see your submissions, Ben,
if and when you're allowed and so inclined to share.
Would've killed to contribute. I've neither killed
nor contributed so my conscience is clear.

huh, so that's what Blue Beetle looks like now? As rendered here it reminded me of one of Kirby's fourth world characters, like Bug, for instance, so it didn't seem inconsistent to me. i don't think it's an improvement on the classic 'Beetle, though, except for making a more visually arresting toy for the younger set.
In its inception I think THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD was one more showcase title to try out new ideas, and editor Julie Schwartz used it to launch updated versions of discontinued Golden Age characters. Kubert's fantastic second run on Hawkman--he was one of the original artists on Hawkman in the 40's-- started in that book. Late 50's-early 60's it became the Batman teamup title exclusively.
But Ben's right, the title does put you in mind of the bold, beautiful, young and restless soap-opera types.
