How to draw women by Jim Balent - WTF?

Postby em... » Sun Jul 22, 2007 7:38 am

I was Googling to see if I could find John Buscema's diagram of female proportions (for a reply to a post in the Superheroes section), when I came across these.

Shouldn't there be some kind of law against Jim Balent telling anyone how to draw women? :x :x :x

Breast Size - This is a very "touch" subject..
Those kinds of overt typos suggest this is culled from an issue of WIZARD Magazine. Or possibly, that horrible "instructional" mag (whose title escapes me now) that always has an Erik Larsen (or that TopCow dude's) drawings on the cover..

I like the part where he sez: "We all know that breasts come in many different sizes, and no one size is better than the other.."

Balent still likes to draw 'em HUMONGOUS.. but really, they could really be ANY size..

Sometimes I think average comics get praised so much nowadays only because the 90s sucked so badly. And shouldn't her whole upper body be a tad shorter since her hips are thrust backwards so much?

bahaha. I remember this from Wizard. Jeez, it was like gospel back then to me and my friends. Of course any professional " how to's " were that way.

It's a great guide for learning to draw women made from helium that just float around.

I'm paticularly fond of the gems of information:

eyelashes should also be longer and more catlike on a female

bunch up the lashes on the corner of the eye, giving it a fuller and more catlike appearance

Uh... cats don't have eyelashes, Mr Balent.

Except, perhaps, for Cat Deeley:

Wow...it's amazing that those examples aren't fan art.

Good god...why didn't they get Jim Lee or Adam Hughes to draw that issue? That was like having Rob Liefeld do a how-to proportion, perspective or people without shoulder pads and tiny heads.

oh my god, i've been drawing women incorrectly all these years...if only i'd seen that wizard article...!

seriously, i have to admit, those RIDICULOUSLY ginormous knockers are kinda fun to look at....not even REMOTELY "sexy" by my standards, but so outrageously over-the-top, they're in a class all their own, you can almost HEAR them....

hey ! i love this comic book .
i always have fanatasies about medium breasted women , but every time i get to check one of those tarot books , i get inspiration for big breasted woman... i wish i could draw like that , so i wouldn't have to leave house every time...and chicks would love me because i would draw them with big breasts like they always wanted to have.
so what are you guys , don't you like breasts ? hehe

It looks like they're carrying twin bellies.
