Hey kids! This jam's dedicated to a favorite of mine: Metamorpho!

Metamorpho first appeared in The Brave and the Bold #57; his freakazoid concept was DC Comics' response to the success of Marvel's off-beat characters. The story, written by Bob Haney and penciled by the talented Ramona Fradon (a personal favorite of mine) introduced Rex Mason, hired adventurer and glorified "gopher" in the exclusive employ of Simon Stagg. Stagg, a millionaire and scientifical-type genius, sent Rex on a hunt for the fabled Orb of Ra; an ancient artifact hewn from a piece of mystical meteor hidden away in the pyramids of Egypt. Rex "has an accident" and is left for dead when the original Meteor transforms him into Metamorpho!

Though physically a freak, Metamorpho possessed the amazing ability to change himself into any form of matter on a whim. This started out limited to only those elements occurring in the human body, but this was sort of "forgotten" over the years, which makes him a pretty powerful hero, limited only by his imagination.

In later years, Metamorpho would make guest appearances all over the DCU and eventually landed himself a team membership when Batman founded the Outsiders. He also became a member of Justice League Europe, has had a female-Metamorpho sidekick, has been split into several separate people, has been the single combined body of several different people, joined the outsiders again, and has died and been resurrected at least a billion-zillion times.

Pictures for you:

Those last two are Ramona Fradon.

Metamorpho as he appears in the Justice League cartoon: http://jl.toonzone.net/metamorpho/metamorpho.htm

And here's mine.

Now get to drawing! Metamorpho's got to be one of the easiest guys to draw since he can look like anything.

Quite an original character for this jam Smile
Adam, you really captured the classic, almost "kirby" feel of the period Smile

Here's my quick attempt. I am also posting the rough sketch in green I used as "pencils"
for the inks. You were right: this character is fun to draw Very Happy

Cheers,
Francesco

Francesco, that's excellent! Metamorpho's organic look really works well with your style, and vice versa.

Great stuff Marty! Especially that last one. I really dig it!

Wow, I am really surprised that with such a fun character this jam is being so slow to take off.

Thanks to Marty and Adam for the nice words, really appreciated Smile
MartyM: love'em both, but the stylish design/graphic of the second is a winner Very Happy
Kelly: great washes there Very Happy I agree, it is perfect as it is in BW Smile

Another quick one I did last night before going to bed - darn, that water was a pain to
draw - hopefully it came out right Rolling Eyes

Cheers,
Francesco

Hey, been a while. I need to get myself back into these things.

TheRonin: Dude! Francesco! Slow down! Let the rest of us stop drooling and catch up to you. Wink

Marty M: I like the last one, reminds me of something you'd see off an old Pink Panther episode. Maybe you should animate it. Razz

themightyadam: Great idea for a jam, man. The bulldozer took me a while to get, but then it was hilarious. Keep it up.

Kelly: Sorry I can't see your work, stupid 'net filter doesn't like most image hosting sites. I'm sure it's great, though.

edit:
Nevermind, that version I had up was crap. I've got something better in the works, so I'll post that later. Keep it up, everyone!

Kelly, that's fantastic! I really like how you did his face.

Francesco, that second one's wild. He looks really intimidating.

Space_bean, I missed the first one also, but that one there has the kooky mood that makes metamorpho one of my fave's.

Marcelo,
very cool! He's such a tough guy. Nice job with the smoky finger effect.

Keep it up you guys. I'll have to throw a couple more into the mix.
