Okay guys, there's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many threads about SDCC going on right now, and I'm waaaaaaaaaaay too lazy to try and merge those all into one or two relevant ones, so we're gonna start fresh now that it's all said and done!
Post all your thoughts and comments and juicy sex stories here, kiddies!
-B.
(Edit: By the way, if I locked one of your threads, it's nothing personal. Just trying to make things nice and easy for everybody.)

For me the highlight was definitely the DB party at the Marriott. It was so cool to finally meet some people from the board.
I also had a great time at the "Quick Draw" session with Sergio Argones, Scott Shaw, and Kyle Baker. It was hilarious. I put some pics on my blog.
Finally, there was a fantastic seminar on character design. It was a panel discussion with Stephen Silver, Dean Yeagle, and Glen McIntosh. I took notes and posted them on my website. Enjoy!

Also, did anyone get into the seminar on Web Comics called "Finding an Audience"? The line to get in was one of the longest at the Con, and only about half of us got in. I was super bummed. If anyone got in and can post what they learned, that would be fantastic!

offbeat - Just saw your post. Yes, I'd love the notes. Sending you a PM.
EDIT: Actually, there were two seminars on web comics. One was about finding an audience, the other was about making money at it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get in to either one. But I'm especially interested in the "Finding an Audience" one if anyone took notes.

Cool meeting a lot of you! wish i could have made the sketch session
but i booked it out of L.A. by saturday morning. I hate massive crowds -
Here's a couple of the cool things i got:
Joe Moshier who is a character designer on the film i'm on had these cool
little flip books. James Baxter did the fun animation for him. Hopefully he'll
post it on his webpage soon.
Chris Sanders (director of Lilo and Stitch and American Dog) had a ton of cool stuff:
I picked up a cool little print from Kevin Dart -
Pierre Alary is a bad ass artist:
On top of those I saw a ton of old friends, met some new
people, and picked up some great sketchbooks from:
J. Scott Campbell, Francesco Francavilla, Art Adams,
Jim Mahfood, Robh Ruppel, Bruce Timm, Ted Mathot,
Scott Morse, Brianne Drouhard, Toby Cypress, Steve Gordon,
Eric Davison, Andrew Robinson, Louie Del Carmen and
the always talented Rodolphe Guenoden.
I really dig Phil Hale's paintings.
He was there for the first time ever signing stuff:
There was so much stuff that I even missed a couple of really
good things like the Sony Animation presentation and the Alex Toth Memorial. damn!
A fun highlight was going to dinner with my friend Phil Noto, Art Adams, Joyce Chin, Bruce Timm and Dave Mandel. It was a really good dinner, even better wine and the conversation was perfect! I love talking comics, movies, and animation with people that are as passionate about it as I am. For the true geek inside it doesn't get any better than that. And let me just say - Don't get Bruce Timm started on Batman Begins!
Good times....good times.

I don't think any of us really want an answer to that question.

i had a ball.
I'm now in a "post-comicon" blues....
I never stopped signing copies of Flight3, and
sold quite a bunch of my sketchbooks.
I broke even with the whole printing costs, which is cool.
I sold quite a bunch of originals too...
For the first time, i was asked for commissions on site,
which made me feel good.
The show "boosted" me to draw again, as i was in a block for the longest time.
It also made me wish i could do comics instead of my day job.
I have toooooonnes of pics that i'll post once i formated them...

enjoy! and please let me know if you met me and i forgot to acknowledge you! it was a ton of names and i don't have my stack of business cards yet (had to ship them up with a bunch of books). some people i really regret not meeting are senti, robh, francesco, robert valley, diddle, and many others. it was too crazy and impossible to meet everybody, but i tried. oh and sorry i didn't stay at the session very long, i was just way too exhausted from standing on my feet for 3 days straight

Oh man Kevin, you were right in the next aisle! I kept seeing you pass by.
Diddle was at our table whenever we could wrangle him and shackle him to the table.
I'm sorry I didn't stop by, you had some awesome stuff. For some reason, I think my head kept turning toward the opposite corner of your aisle.

Man that was intense! Maverix booth was a tiny spot on the map - literally. This year we were placed amidst CBS, Universal Television, Square Enix and all the other HUGE structures and other enormous displays, that many of our friends couldn't even f ind us. We each tried our best to stick to schedules in order to be present at the booth and also allow for some time to wander around the Con floor - but there were a lot of variables that occurred that many sacrifices were made.
So my personal appologies for not being able to visit with many of you!
Hey Rod! It was great to see you again and I am so sad to not get the chance to get to your table and return the gracious gesture of the purchase from me and pick up one of your sketchbooks. Please, please tell me about where I can find a copy or I'll send a check now if you'll send it my way.
StolleBoy- Scott, great to finally meet you! Glad you were able to find us amidst the chaos! Thank you for supporting the cause!
BlueHarp411- Jill, I hope you made it to the Con, and if you did I'm sorry we couldn't meet. Maybe next year.
Francesco! It was such a pleasure to meet you and to have had the pleasure of fine conversation. Great book, by the way!
Jamie Baker & Rhode Montijo kick ass!
Ted Mathot - you're good company, dude!
That's it for now - I need to deCONpress.
Best regards to all!
-Tom

Hello everyone,
I don't post here much but I have been a fairly frequent follower for about the last 3-4 years. It is an excellent community of artists. The funny thing is that I know a LOT of the people from here so going to my first Comic Con and meeting them was quite an event.
It was a really great getaway for the day. I don't draw everyday since I work in the game industry. But I fell in love with all the sketchbooks I saw at the con so hopefully I will be drawing some more
Anyways, here is a picture of me for the con so that some of the people I met might recognize me. I am the one with the fake blue photoshop caliper over the head. Also a pic of all the things I got.
Here is everything I got at the con:
First of all I got a couple prints from Kevin Dart. The Snake Master and The Queen of the Lizards. Always loved these and now I have em on paper I came home and put them on the wall behind my TV. It makes the whole room 10 times better. Beautiful stuff. It was also great to meet you in person Kevin. I told a lot of my co-workers about the prints and they got some too.
After that I got Rodolphe's Diz, Dat and Doz sketchbook. I have always loved the sketches and its great to have a book He wrote "Merci!" inside and that made me chuckle about all the french he throws in every post. Thanks a lot sir! And as a side comment, I had seen your sketches of your wife before but she is even more beautiful in person (assuming that she was your wife of course). Really great smile.
I also got a Flight 3 poster since the trees are so damn beautiful.
I went to the Imaginism booth and got Bobby Chiu's Creature Sketches. Really talented work. I have always admired his work here and on CGTalk.
In the end, I got Fragments and Sketchcrawlin by Enrico Casarosa and Ronnie del Carmen. Amazing colors and expressive work. I have seen a lot of the drawings before but it is great to have something to flip through.
I know the Flight booth had a lot of board members. I talked to Rad Sechrist and saw NoFret. There was also a pretty asian girl who I didn't ask probably because I was tongue-tied haha.
All in all, it was an excellent manifestation of my online hobby. Humbling and inspiring at the same time. Thanks for all the signatures!
- neel
