Disclaimer: So that we don't open the floodgates to a slew of 'resume' type posts - although this is a "services available" and not "services needed" post, I have cleared it with Rob, in hopes that it may benefit some of you.
Although I love drawing funny noses for money my real bread an butter for the past 10 years has been layout, design and pre-press work for various printing companies.
Occasionally I am contacted by artists wanting to print their own stuff and I try and help them out as much as I can.
The requests have been growing (they seem to swell around Comic-Con!) and instead of chasing emails, private messages and blog entries - I thought I'd offer my services to the Drawing Board as a whole, in one convenient thread.
So here's the haps:
I've put together a price list for the three most popular items I print - full color business cards, and full color post cards (2 sizes).
My hope is that eventually, after receiving suggestions from you all - I can start offering a practical solution to other printed items, like entire sketchbooks.
For now though I'll start with these three.
Feel free to ask questions here or email me at info @ artsyfartsystudios . com (do not use the Drawing Board messaging - I rarely remember to check it!)
but before you do - please take a moment to download and peruse the order form/checklist I've created - as it may help answer some of your questions:
CHECKLIST/ORDERFORM
Thanks!
I hope this works out for everyone! I hate seeing friends receive crappy printing!
As artists we should want our printed artwork to reflect our actual artwork!

Here's another item: Vinyl Banners.
If you visited the Drawing Board/Sketchbook Sessions crew in
San Diego last year, these were the type of banners hanging behind us.
As usual - if you have any questions, please feel free to post them here,
or email me privately.

Here's my ringing endorsement for Corkbutt's work: inexpensive, quality work and the turnaround time was excellent. Best deal in town, folks!

I second that endorsement. Quality work amazingly fast.

I implore anyone to follow the checklist on the order form.
If each item is checkmarked it will eliminate many any problems with size and or resolution.
But I will provide an overview:
File types
I can definitely use files from the following programs: QuarkXPress, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PDF (Acrobat). If you are using any other program I would advise exporting it to a format compatible with one of the apps listed. (For instance, exporting a *shudder* Publisher file to a PDF)
Now each of those format requires it's own set of rules and that's where the checklist comes in!
A quark file will require the fonts collected, an EPS file will require the fonts outlined, a photoshop file is not recommended for text layout, and so on.
My favoritist format (and the least problematic) is a vector EPS with all graphics embedded and all fonts outlined.
Image Size
This is dictated by the type of document itself. SIMPLE!
If it is a business card it will always be 3.5" x 2".
If you are paying for a 4" x 6" postcard, then your file will be 4" x 6".
Paying for an 8.5" x 5.5" postcard. . .you guessed it!
The only rule here is that if your image "bleeds" (goes off the edge of the document) it needs to extend a minimum of 1/8" (.125") past the edge.
Perhaps I'll post some images for those who find this difficult to imagine (it comes up a lot!)
File Size
Right now this one's easy. Only 2 options.
If it's within reasonable email limitations (say up to 5-10MBs) you can email it. Otherwise, burn it to a CD and mail it to me (with the checklist! )
Email me privately and I will provide you with an address to send it to.
I'm working on an upload script that will allow people to upload their files directly to my server from their computers, but so far it's still buggy.
Thanks!

By the way - I'll be out of town the week preceding the San Diego ComicCon.
So I will be unable to process anymore jobs needed for the Con.
Sorry for any inconveniences - but look at it this way - you have an ENTIRE YEAR to prepare for 2007.
Get crackin'!

FROM CORBETT:
Hey, Gang!
I regret to inform the members of the Drawing Board that I will no longer be able to assist in any printing needs. Within the next month, I'll be moving from Los Angeles to Minneapolis, Minnesota and despite my greatest efforts, the print vendors I work with refuse to move with me (I think offset printing ink congeals at a brisk 72 degrees)
Please feel free to contact my former employer, Quicksilver Printing, in Northridge, California. They'll be able to help you out.
(818) 998-9900
19201 Parthenia St.
Northridge, CA 91324
Don't expect the prices I'd posted on here, though! I was just trying to help out the DB by doing stuff at cost - but Quicksilver's all into, like, not going bankrupt and stuff. Just the same - they're good guys. Wink
Tell 'em Corbett sent you.
Thanks!
- Corbett
