adam hughes' lovely gal-pal alison sohn just alerted me to a new bootleg b.t. sketchbook coming out in a few weeks from dolmen publishing...apparently in their solicitations they're claiming the book is authorised by me...not to dredge up this old issue -- if anyone wants to fork over good money on bootleg product, that's their business, no skin off my nuts -- but be aware that the dolmen book is NOT AUTHORISED BY ME IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, and if in fact they say otherwise, they're flat-out lying.
caveat empor and all that.

I take it you've not seen the "Carpett Voroni's Coffee Shop Sketches" book?
b.t., I second Martin's sentiment: put out your own! A big ol' color one. Provided getting permission from DC & Marvel & the like doesn't cost an arm & a leg, of course. It'd sell faster than the bootlegs, and may even put the bootleggers outta business!
People want their fix of b.t. work. It's addictive!

All this does point out that the Modern Masters book didn't even begin to sate the appetite for your work. Bootlegging is a weird sort of compliment.
I do hope you can shut these guys down.

Well sure! I publish that one myself. Statistics show I sell more when people think they're taking advantage me!

(I'm not laughing...my top lip is just quivering and there happens to be an emoticon for it.)
Man...there are a lot of Timm bootlegs. I wonder if it's just the same artwork over and over culled from the net or what...

i expect that could just be more trouble than it's worth. Unless these guys have a ton of money (which i'm guessing they don't) then it's porbably going to cost more in court fees than he'd actually end up getting out of them.
I would think Marvel and DC would have hit them for reprinting their characters already if this wasn't the case, although i would a cease and desist order would come from it.
I don't know how copyright law transfers internationally either, or how to bring up international lawsuits. These guys are actually in spain, correct?

cameron, to answer your query about legal action: drugmassacre's right, to this point i've felt it's not worth the time, effort and expense....awhile back, john morrow of twomorrows publishing instigated legal proceedings against one of these spanish bootleggers -- they'd reprinted the entire interview from CBA's adam hughes issue in one of their "adam hughes sketchbooks" without paying for its usage -- and though i don't know what ultimately came of it, i know john found the entire process very difficult and frustrating....
what really pissed me off this time is the publisher's audacious claim of "authorisation"....not quite the straw that broke the camel's back, but enough to inspire me to post this message for anyone contemplating buying the book....
