Well, I'm a little behind schedule again. I don't know about you, but life has a way of doing that to me. I'm working on page 5 and it should be done soon; I'm pretty sure it will be done by the weekend. As I promised, there is actual dialog on page 5! Also, the pace will pick up a little on page 6. So, stay tuned!

Thanks!

Okay, the wait is over, here is page 5 of my adaption of a Zen Tale, I call "I Bring Nothing!"

Please click the link below to view the comic on my blog.

I'm hoping that the next couple of pages are easier to do and they come more quickly. The complete story will be 8 pages, so 3 more to go!

As always comments and critiques much appreciated!

I'm working on page 6, adding the gray tones. I should be finished in a couple days. This page has dialog in every panel! Wooohooo!

Stay tuned!

Nice page! The drawing is good (the hands do kind of jump out - but I'd hate to draw them in that position...), nice black robe, nice setting.

A little thing - the potted plant in the background. You could have it much higher on the shelf, now it rests too much on the line and could look more natural just by moving it up a little. A bit too much is "coming together" in that area (shelf, plant, balloon) - I have trouble keeping things from getting cluttered myself, it's something that I always have to work on.

Look foreward to the next page - have enjoyed it so far and am quite curious as to what the story will be about. I kind of hope for a little "enlightenment" - a good tale is hard to beat!

Maybe ten years ago, I did a 24 page comic with no text at all (there was a newspaper clipping on the first page, but nothing else). It's not so much dialog I miss (well, I do like reading comics as well as looking at them, I admit...) I just don't read any manga and it is a little new for me to see the format - sparse, clean pages and fairly large panels. I would have crammed everything so far into two pages, probably (and with a narrative in each panel, for no real reason...) and it's nice to read and see how you tell your story.

Looking out for the next episode!

Charles, thank you again for the feedback and support! I really appreciate it.

I see what you mean by the Ikebana (plant).

I agonized over those hands! Don't really like them, but at a certain point, I had to just move on. More hands in the next page. Hopefully, they come out better.

The next page definitely starts to get into the mix of things.

If you're interested in reading some Manga, I found a website where you can read Manga for free and they have a nice collection:

http://www.mangareader.net/

I just found this site and don't know much about it. I saw they have "Naruto", which is a name that looks familiar, but I've never read it before.

http://www.mangareader.net/93-1-1/naruto/chapter-1.html

Just glancing at the first couple of pages, it looks pretty good. You should know that Manga tends to fall into two main categories: shojo for girls and shonen for boys. There are other subcategories, but you can tell which are for girls and which are for boys. If you really want to know more, check out the wikipedia page for Manga:

Thanks again!

Well, after attending to other responsibilities and distractions, here is page 6 of "I Bring Nothing"!

At long last, we are getting to the meat of the story.

I hope you're hanging in there so far. Only two pages left.

As always comments and critiques are welcome!

Thanks for following!

Thanks for the links, I looked at a few comics a bit and will look at more.

And I enjoyed the page. Hands looking better, I'd say - and beards - great things, I always find them hard to style-ize but very nice! The guy suits his role, and wonder what his story is - and his question, the advice he is looking for. It'll be cool to see the whole thing done and read it in one go.

Thanks Charles! I appreciate the feedback.

I agree with you that it would be nice to read the whole thing continuously. I'm planning on posting the whole story in one shot, when I'm finished.

Thanks for the nod on the "casting" of the seeker. I had fun playing with his expressions and hand gestures in relation to what he was saying.

Two more pages!

Thanks for hanging in there!

Wow, I can't believe it's been that long since I posted a page or was even on this board! Been busy with life. Was out of town for a few days. I'm working on page 7. I finished the inking and now I'm adding the gray tones. I hope to have something up soon.

Thanks for your patience!

Hello!

I can't believe it's almost been a month, since I posted the last page. I was hoping to be more productive, but then life gets in the way and I have other work I need to do.

Well, here is page 7 of "I Bring Nothing".

Thank you to all of you who have viewed and commented on the individual pages, as I was working on this story. It was quite a journey for me. This is the most involved comic I've done to date and I'm looking forward to doing more.

Here is the complete story posted here.
