Hi Em, it's a lovely painting, as always. But I keep looking at photos of her and thinking something about the eyes is throwing off the likeness a bit. Maybe if they were a bit smaller and spaced farther apart. It's tough to get a sense of what she really looks like because her appearance seems to vary throughout the photos of her on the web.

I completely agree, Mark.

I'm disappointed in myself with this, because I really wanted to do a good job with her, but it just didn't quite work out. I shall be attempting her again soon.

Love it -like how her hair looks like it's been tied so tight on her head it's squeezing her skull.

Really? They chose HER for their challenge? The world doesn't have enough freaking Sarah Palin caricatures?

That said, this is, indeed, a good one.

For some reason reminded me of that lady rather than the actual sarah palin.

I love it. The blueish light coming from the side is a really nice touch.

Thank you all.

Like Don, I was very much of the opinion that the world needs another Sarah Palin caricature only slightly less than it needs another one of Obama or Bush, and I initially had no intention of taking part.

Then I decided I'd have a go anyway, and found her surprising fun to do. I think maybe because I usually caricature people who I like, I tend to want to be at least partially flattering; but with Palin, I felt free from that self imposed limitation.

<strike>I'm not setting out to be rude but I think there is definately something off with it which can't be excused by not liking her - the eyes for instance don't look like hers.

Though once I tried caricaturing her and didn't get anywhere myself.</strike>

I tried doing an edit but it didn't work well. So yeah, maybe ignore what I said.

eyes

Postby dougtoney » Mon Mar 07, 2011 6:19 am

I think it's the eyes also that's throwing it off. I would've gotten Palin from the red collar, the hair style, the glasses, and the smile but her eyes seem too bulbous and round.
Great job though as always.

You're both quite right. I wanted to make her look insane, so the eyes are a lot more cartoony than I would normally do. The likeness suffered a bit as a consequence.

Here's Bill Murray, for Caricaturama:

ha, nice. a good likeness, and a great painting as always.

however, something is throwing me off. i think it might be the sharp angles at the corners of his hair, maybe.
