i kind of agree. knowing who it is, i can see the likeness. but i don't think you've proportioned his features correctly for it to be immediately obvious that it's leslie nielsen. i think more of the face's length needs to be in the centre area--longer nose and the area surrounding it. very nice render, though.

here's mine:

Thanks Haystak and Don. I knew the likeness wasn't 100%, but i saw Leslie in it. Thats is the problem i think when i am so busy with all the details - i think it has likeness. I have a lot of difficulties finding the features to exaggerate but your comments (Don) really helped. I am new to caricature, but i really like it and some day i hope to succeed in likeness ;-)

Maced- The problem is the reference you used. I eventually found the photo you used as ref, it was hard to find...and it was a mirrored photo! Notice the parting in the hair on yours is the opposite to everyone else's. Whoever put that photo on the internet, thought it was necessary to flip the photo. But even when I flipped the photo the right way, it still wasn't a very 'Leslie Nielsen' looking photo. That's the problem with just relying on one photo to draw from, ideally you should have had a few photos to draw from and this may have resulted in a better likeness for you.

Thank you very much Chris for the effort. I did use this reference but i had different other reference photo's. I am just not good enough ;-) I find it very hard to determine what to exaggerate and what not. I agree that the reference pic i chose was too hard (the expression i mean). I should have picked a more obvious facial expression i think. I will keep on practising. Thanks very much for the reply.

here's my tribute. Not sure where I went wrong, so if any suggestions let me know ;) I find him very recognizable, but hard to caricature.
I have artwork at http://majortoons.com and my blog at naomiandpoggie.blogspot.com

My rendition of Leslie Nielsen. Had a bit of trouble with this do to the expression and it being a much older photo of him. Overall I think I got the face structure but missed out with the eyes.

JCottle ; I think the problem is those eyes doesn't fit together. The structure is quite there and the expression too.

Sloopy Bunny : Sorry, I don't see him...

Jubhubmubfub : The expression is there but I think there's a problem with his head shape.

Donpinsent : Something wrong with the eyes, I think. This guy is not easy to draw, I must say.

Maced : I think you could get a quite better likeness by working on eyes ; much open, on eyebrows ; muche darker, and on hair shape. I did a little something from your drawing (if you allow me) :

Just some directions to work on...

Maced : Nobody could reach this website for a while...

I realize I just did it again (with your Bowie attempt) and trace some red marks on your drawing... I don't want to look as a teacher here, it's just my english is not good enough sometimes to express what I mean...

I really do appreciate you acting as a 'teacher'. You know what you're talking about, so please continue to do so. We are here to help each other right?

So thanks!
