Screen recorder problem

Postby em... » Fri Nov 06, 2009 9:54 am

I downloaded a trial of Snapz pro, with a view to doing some videos of me painting, but I keep getting some odd black marks showing up in the resulting movie, following the trail of the brush/cursor movement.

I've tried a few different file types, resolutions and frame rates, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any ideas anyone? And what settings are other people using for this kind of thing? Any other screen recorders recommended instead?

Not sure what's causing the black marks, though artefacts like that usually indicate a video or encoding issues.

Does the software have the option to not record the mouse movement or to not record the "clicks" which would be when you're pen's on the tablet, you could try turning that on and see if the marks persist.

Or you could try changing the codec the video is being recorded in if options are available for that

I use Auto Screen Recorder 3.0 Free to do my screen recording, though I'm not sure they do a version for the Mac (which I'm assuming you're using judging by that screenshot?)

There's a website that offers a free live streaming service called UStream.tv they have quite a good FAQ on screen recording software for the Mac, that alot of webcomic creators have been using lately to record/live stream their work (PVPOnline, Penny Arcade etc).

Alternatively Krisvahl has some great really high quality vids on his youtube channel so you could probably pick his brains?

Hope some of that helps, looking forward to some videos from you
