Robert Fawcett Book

Postby Manuel100 » Thu Sep 17, 2009 3:17 pm

Illustration fans everywhere have impatiently waited for a book on the legendary Robert Fawcett, known as ?The Illustrator?s Illustrator.? At last their dream is about to come true.

The first book on the life and work of Fawcett is under development by Auad Publishing, scheduled for release in early spring 2010. Walt Reed, who knew Fawcett personally, has written an insightful introduction and David Apatoff, a foremost authority on Fawcett, has contributed the text. The book will contain over a hundred color illustrations and numerous black and white drawings. These are images which have long been out of circulation and are largely unavailable today. Many of the images in the book were made from the originals which have been hidden away for decades by private collectors so the quality will be superior to the images published in magazines many decades ago. Best of all, the twelve Fawcett Sherlock Holmes illustrations will be together in a book for the first time, some taken from the original paintings. A great deal of passion has been devoted to this project. Everyone who is familiar with Fawcett?s work will surely want a copy, and those who are unfamiliar with his work will enjoy seeing what they have been missing.

Stay tuned to this website as we bring you the latest on the progress of this marvelous book.

Manuel

So, speaking of great illustrators, anyone know if there's a recent book about Al Parker - either in print or on the way?

Closest I know of is the exhibition catalogue from The Norman Rockwell museum.

It would be great if IDW would branch and do books on classic illustrators like the Sickles and upcoming Toth volume.

Hol. E. Crap.

I'm definitely excited for this! Weirdly enough, the first time I saw Robert Fawcett was in a Famous Artist Instruction book on the human figure (I think that was the name of that...it was that old mail-away school?) Quickly became one of my favorite 20th century illustrators.

Robert Fawcett Book

Postby Tlouis » Mon Oct 19, 2009 9:52 am

Hello Everyone.
It seems I've been waiting a dozen life times for a really good, throughly researched book on the art of Robert Fawcett. Can't wait until spring gets here. I have a copy of the third edition of On The Art of Drawing, but I'm sure it will pale beside the upcoming book.
The next book I'd love to have would be one on the illustrations of Fred Freeman. A truly dynamite artist. Can't find much about him on the internet. Anyone got any leads? :)

To all those that have are excited and have written about the upcoming Robert Fawcett book, I thank you very much. Believe me; I?m just as excited as everybody else. This book has been on my mind for years and I?m pleased that everything seemed to fall into place at the right time for me to finally do it. I guess it?s true, if you wait long enough for something it will eventually happen. I?m working hard in having a blog where I can let everyone know the latest progress on the book plus all the other projects that Auad publishing is working on. Again, thank you for you enthusiasm. Oh! one last item. The Fawcett cover I posted is not the final version. We?re still working on it and I?ll post it the minute it?s ready.

Grew up on your inking, Joe. I fondly remember your great embellishments on all the entries and covers for the Marvel Universe Handbooks in the 80's.
