Back to Basics. Life Drawing at Dr. Sketchy's L.A. (nudity)

Postby vhpayes » Wed Jul 22, 2009 2:36 pm

It's been a while since I did some live figure drawing. So my friend and I went to a Dr. Sketchy's last Sunday here in L.A.

Hopefully we can go again when my wife and I return from Russia.

Great sketches! Love how you drew the twists and turns and stretches, and you use the graphite really well to indicate volume. Great energy in these. I can really feel the model moving, bending, reaching... Watch your proportions: the legs seem short on many of them. Of course, if it's all the same model, maybe she just had short legs. it looks like you had a great model with some great poses, too, which can really help. Post again, have fun in Russia, wish we had Dr. Sketchy's here in DC!

Thanks for the comments. I was reading "Drawn to LIfe" volume 1 by Walt Stanchfeld before hand, so I was inspired to capture the action. However, I could have pushed it more. I think proportions came from trying to exaggerate a little combined with how I was holding my drawing board. Dr. Sketchy's is kind of like lounging around in a bar, so it was dark and there was alcohol involved too so it all came out sort of cartoony haha. I think I'll pay more attention to it next time.

Heheh. I was thinking that some of the exploration reminded me a bit of the Force book. Lovely energy and gesture. Great poses, too.
