Envelope Art

Postby Allstarkrew » Tue Jul 14, 2009 12:06 pm

here's a short little photo tour of how I bust out some of the envelopes I send out to people. Prepare to be nauseous:
Image
I don't rock pencil with shit like this, so I just take my lovely red marker here and make a random shape. Usually as I'm making the random shape something will pop into my head and I'll add on an arm, leg, giant penis or whatever may tickle your fancy.
Image
I did all the blacks with a Copic brush pen. The Copic pens may just be my new favorite thing. They're better than microns in that you can replace the nibs and they have refillable cartridges.
Image
Then I take a similar red color and go over it making the shadowing in the figure and added some cute stars to boot. ahhhhh.
Image
I thought it needed a little something extra so I found this green crappy pen that I got from god knows where, and make some swirls with random skulls in em...but still it needs more more more.
Image
HIGHLIGHTER MUH-FUCKERS!!! Highlighter pretty much solves everything. Look how bright and pretty it is. Almost like those stupid teenagers pants in the mall. Seriously, what the fuck is up with wearing highlighter colored jeans? Fuckin morons. Anyways that's pretty much it. It took me roughly 15 mins from beginning to end to finish this little thing here. I'll post more of what goes into these envelopes later---or you could just find out by ordering some shit from my ETSY account. Click the link below.

Please visit my NEW etsy shop to purchase WTD number 2. Issues 1 & 3 are sold out. I'll be doing Reprints of them, but I'm gonna be doing new covers and whatnot. So the new versions prolly won't drop until I'm done with number 4. Ya snooze ya lose.

WTD04 PG38 Process

Postby Allstarkrew » Fri Jul 31, 2009 2:36 pm

The process of me coming up with comics is slow and retarded and it goes something like this:
Image

This is my brainstorming/sketch/writing session. I do none of these but if I had to pinpoint some sort of pre-drawing process outlining the page would be it. One day I'll write a comic before I draw the damn thing then they'd actually be readable.
Image

and this is the writing and pencil process. I'm prolly the worst penciller ever which is why i doubt anyone could ink my shit.
Image

I always rock the outline for the panel and the word balloons before I ink anything just to avoid my stupid ass from inking over any of these parts. Trust me, I used to fill in black or continue lines to far all the time. I'm a moron.
Image

And all the inks are pretty much done. Now you can see how terrible my pencils are compared to my lackluster inking abilities.
Image

and boom! tough actin tinactin! Here's the finished inked product. Now I just need to halftone and add the lettering...this is the first thing I've ever lettered by computer and I have to say, I'm just not feeling it and might go back to hand lettering after this. But here's the finished product.

Image

Thanks fer checking it out. Hopefully it wasn't too boring or moronic the way I rock comics.

Thanks. I'm not insane  , maybe mildly autistic.

Yeah this is all gonna see print in B&W so color doesn't help me at all. If it was web only I might have tried my hand at color. Maybe when I get a tablet I can rock colors faster or at least clean the toning up. I'm left handed and when I use a mouse I use my right hand, so there's a disconnect between doing things on the computer for me and drawing on paper. But hopefully a tablet can fix all that.

thanks for the comment!
