Here's a couple of selfportraits from the last couple of years. The first is one of my first caricatures.

Crazzy Sports Coat

Postby JonEdwards » Sat Jul 11, 2009 6:07 pm

Put on a crazy old sports coat for this one, not sure why but I like how it came out.

Carlos, man that is fantastic. I've always had trouble with self caricatures but I see that that is not a problem for you. Very well played. One question though. The Yankees?

JimH, Thanks man! I know many people hate painting hair but I really enjoy it (maybe it is because I don?t have much), he he...it gives so much realism to the painting
Mrjusta, Thank you, I took a lot of pictures of my self just to do this caricature. Having a good reference is very important. I hope to see yours soon.
Oakhorse, Thanks, well...Yankees, not really. That cap was a gift, and I really like how it fits and because it is black. I don?t have anything against NY either.

Actually this is one of those instances where I get hung up on something bogus. It's the word silly.
I saw that and thought: "well I have a few self caricatures, there's one I'm working on right now for an oline presentation, but it's not really exceptionally "silly".
So I was going to wait until I had the time to do a silly one. But then I remembered! I have a couple in my ballpoint pen sketchbook that could squeak by as silly.
This first is just an old grumpus drawing of me -kind of how I look in the morning, with eyeballs.
Because it's fun to draw eyeballs...right?!

And the second one is in response to the never ending terror of the blank page, and I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. In the drawing I'm holding my official non professional current weapon of choice -the BIC 4 Color Ballpoint Pen- one of my favorite toys of the past several months. So early this year it was ballpoint pen, on shitty composition paper. I figure the next step in my regression is Crayola Crayons on cheap construction paper. Or Oak Tag.

If you find you're interested in seeing more ballpoint pen on ruled paper work , there's a nice sample of my sketchbook of that stuff on my Ice Cream's Got No Bones blog. The link is below...just scroll down the page when you get there...
