I liked it. Not the greatest movie I've ever seen, but enjoyable.

I'm a little hesitant to call it Star Trek though. They changed quite a lot to the tone of the franchise that it kinda loses the vibe that made star trek unique.

And what they did halfway through the film is something even I as a non Trekkie find somewhat blasphemous.

I'm not really sure how I feel about the new direction this franchise went in.

Most of the other changes I thought worked quite well. The cast surprised me as well in that they nailed the characters without coming off as a cheap copy of the original.

Especially the guy who played Kirk is great.

As a movie on the whole it was pretty entertaining, but I never found it mindblowing.
It had some great humor, but the action scenes were so so. The villain could have been slightly more than a generic angry Romulan, if you ask me.

Just saw the movie. I liked it. I see where he got away with the changes in the movie. It sort of like a different dimension! LoL. Spock was alive, and well. The whole future being changed because of the villain made sense to why the movie differ from the series... Made sense. Good movie.

I agree with JHarker's review.

It looked good, it was perfectly cast and I didn't mind the continuity changes, but the story was weak and the dialogue was incredibly clunky and some of the scenes seemed awkward, especially Nimoy's; "Kirk, I have come from the future to deliver exposition".

Not awful, but not quite the modern classic I'd been led to believe by the overwhelmingly positive pre-buzz.

This movie has easily the worst plot the Star Trek movies have ever received (yes, even the first and fifth) and yet J. J. Abrams made work incredibly well. For that, he's getting nothing but respect from me.

Despite lens flare being the new shaky cam, I thought this movie was great. Seems to be a pretty common reaction. Most of the complaints I've seen around the web are from people that didn't get that this was an alternate time-line that did not negate and destroy all the Trek that's come before.

As for the badguy, yeah... he was kinda 2D and lame. But, since this was really about the Enterprise characters he didn't really have to be a Kahn. Would have been nice but, over all, I didn't mind him sucking.

In fact, nothing really bothered me that much. People mention the engine room. Yeah, it did look more like a sewage treatment plant than a starship engine but it didn't ruin it for me. The SpoilerA making out with SpoilerB bit seemed clumsy, unnecessary and tacked on but I didn't mind it much.

Over all, it was fun and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Saw it tonight and really enjoyed it. I've never watched an episode of Star Trek all the way
through, or any of the movies, so I had nothing to compare it to beyond my general pop
culture awareness of the subject matter.

The movie was loads of fun, and nicely shot (in spite of a bit of overkill with the previously
mentioned lens flares). As my expectations were for nothing more than a moderately decent
movie, I can say it easily surpassed my expectations. I actually found myself eager for a sequel...

Saw it last night and this morning.

so much fun

I was sitting in a row with several black women. ( i can say that right....women? )

And when Medea popped up, at the same time they went "Ohhhhh! " all giddy like, I went "Awwwwww!" all disgusted.

Karl Urban rules that movie.

And what was up with the Shizuma Drive ?
When that sucker broke open at the end of the movie I was all "The Beautiful Night!"

Glad to see I'm not the only person to think of Giant Robo during that scene.

I liked it, didn't love it. I thought they should've left out the original Spock; the time travel stuff was forced and frankly confusing. I was prepared to hate Kirk after seeing the first trailer, but I thought the guy did a really good job of doing his own Kirk without worrying about being a young Shatner. Young Spock was pefect. Scotty as written was too silly.

Little things bugged me:

Winona Ryder as Spock's mom was odd casting. Why not get an older actress to play the part? Of course, maybe there was a cut scene with the Spock child she was in. I did feel her death, however.

Bones getting his nickname because "after the divorce, all that was left was bones." Huh? Why not the real world convention of calling a doctor "Bones" because it's short for "sawbones." Or look no further than the series Bones..

Having a giant, red, leathery space bug on an ice planet made zero sense. If not fur, it should've at least been white -- or even black. Also, it came across as too Cloverfield in its movements.

What the hell's "red matter?" Was it mentioned already in the Star Trek universe and I missed it?

I doubt if I'll be seeing this again in the theater. I'll probaly watch it again in a few years, though.

Overall it was a good Movie, enjoyable, I didn't mind the reboot.

I felt there were too many 'In Peril' scenes mainly where Scotty travels through the Pipes and The Ice Monster that conveniently chases Kirk into the very cave that SPOCK Prime is in were totally unnecessary!

Most of the Actors Were Good I feel that Scotty, Nero, Uhura and Sulu were the weakest.

I guess my main issue was what they did with the Spock Prime character, Maybe they didn't want to Kill him again but going through my mind was Can two spocks Co-exist at the same time and was it necessary to keep him? There was no heroic finally from him he just walked off to rebuild Vulcan Society in the end. If he had somehow got on board and finally closed the BlackHole it would have been a better ending. But ahh well Time Travels Messy as they have found out.

I really didn't want to see Klingons or Khan again and I have to admit to Laughing when the Red Shirt got Fried hmmmm Was I supposed too??

it was a good adventure film, havent seen a good one in a long while, it kinda reminded me of the old indiana jones movies, where the main hero doesnt get all the ladies, in fact i dont think he really even got any real ladies besides the floozie, she admitted to sleeping with tons of guys. and he did get his ass kicked, (maybe a little too much) but it was fun. and i will allow the changes, if it only gets better from here!

i saw it at the imax and didnt really notice the lens flares, maybe cause of the massive screen you its too big to notice. ??
