I liked it, didn't love it. I thought they should've left out the original Spock; the time travel stuff was forced and frankly confusing. I was prepared to hate Kirk after seeing the first trailer, but I thought the guy did a really good job of doing his own Kirk without worrying about being a young Shatner. Young Spock was pefect. Scotty as written was too silly.
Little things bugged me:
Winona Ryder as Spock's mom was odd casting. Why not get an older actress to play the part? Of course, maybe there was a cut scene with the Spock child she was in. I did feel her death, however.
Bones getting his nickname because "after the divorce, all that was left was bones." Huh? Why not the real world convention of calling a doctor "Bones" because it's short for "sawbones." Or look no further than the series Bones..
Having a giant, red, leathery space bug on an ice planet made zero sense. If not fur, it should've at least been white -- or even black. Also, it came across as too Cloverfield in its movements.
What the hell's "red matter?" Was it mentioned already in the Star Trek universe and I missed it?
I doubt if I'll be seeing this again in the theater. I'll probaly watch it again in a few years, though.
