Three years with nothing for company but a computer that communicated through goddamn goofy smiley faces... I'd want to smash that thing's display in after about a day of it making :?   at me. No wonder the guy appears to be going crazy.

Other than that, it looks like it's cribbing pretty heavily from 2001: A Space Odyssey, with some Solaris thrown in for good measure.

That's not to say it doesn't look interesting though.

despite Kevin Spacey's Hal impression, this looks GREAT!

and i would probably see anything with Rockwell in it, one of my favorite actors.

Blimey, that look's like a great slab of intelligent, character driven, sci-fi. Flashes of 2001, Solaris and Silent Running all seemed to make an appearence in that trailer. I always get a nice little buzz to hear local lad, Clint "PWEI" Mansell knocking out another great score..it's a long way from downing dodgy beers in The Swan and playing dodgy gigs in JB's and The Mitre :)

This just came out this weekend. Anyone out in LA or NY see it? From what I gather that's the two places it's being released at the moment.

I thought it was a very good movie. I didn't love it, however...but I would recommend it. Impressive debut from David Bowie's son, his future looks promising.

I agree.... I don't know if I'd quite say I "love" it, but I thought it was very enjoyable and very well made. Same Rockwell is great as usual. I set my hopes moderately high, and this more or less met them.

I'm surprised there isn't more talk about this now that it's out. Moon may not have been 100% original, but I think all the classic sci-fi plot elements it used were executed beautifully. Not to mention that It was actually sci-fi, and not swords and sorcery in space. Personally I loved it and I can't wait to see more from Jones.

I went into it thinking "I've see this episode of outer-limits before". the trailer gives away the entire plot. "who is this guy, why does he look like me?!?!" if you've seen any classic sci-fi you know exactly what's going on and what's going to happen. but Duncan Jones kept my attention for the entire film. He knew we'd seen this story before, but his movie wasn't aiming to be a suprising twist on an old tale, his movie was entirely about character. And for a movie about one man's struggle with himself for an hour and a half, it was amazingly tense and entertaining. a real feat. And I loved the tension gerty's transparent HAL rip-off gave. oh no! he's going to turn and kill everyone at any moment and ruin the whole movie!! but jones plays on it, using it to make gerty's real nature extremely touching.

and it was actually sci-fi! there was actual science combined with speculative fiction on how man would cope with it. I don't know when the last time was that I saw a sci-fi movie like that. not to mention that all the external moon rover shots are made with practical models (which I just love on principle).

when first heard about it I wanted it to be good but thought it would probably turn out to be an unfocused mess of low-gravity action and empty plot twists. I was really suprised to find a completely solid and fun sci-fi movie.

8) 8) I loooove that movie.
I totally agree about your notes,Radio_jalopie.
Jones did a great job of leading us towards a more expected tail, and kept veering
away from it. For example, even casting Kevin Spacey for the voice was definitely
intending to expect the worst from it....

I've always been a fan of S.Rockwell and
i wonder if any other actor could have carried the movie as brilliantly as he did.
I admit not being very objective there....
