general TABLET problems and questions!

Postby laura tyzack » Thu Dec 18, 2008 5:13 am

hello - LTRFTW - i have a question about graphic tablets -

not so long ago i bought an A4 size Trust graphics Tablet, installed all the right software adjusted all the settings including inside photoshop / illustrator etc, and it was compatible with vista - but could never get the hang of the pen or the way it handled.

i would like to try a wacom bamboo seen as if i have heard good things about them however -

do they draw on screen accurately? when i tried with my previous tablet i would be drawing quite accurately on the surface but on screen the lines were darting all over and not accurate at all. the mouse pointer would also seem to zoom off when it liked sometimes after my hand pulled away from the tablet.
like i said - i adjusted all settings over and over again tweaking it here and there but the tablet wasnt very accurate at all.

is there any tablet such as the bamboo that feels natural and is accurate to your hand movements without, shall i say, spazzing out??

thanks. your comments will hopefully influence me to buy, so any comments are appreciated. i know reviews can often be mixed about certain graphics tablets.

thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Wacom is definitely the way to go. I have a Wacom Intuos and a Wacom Grapphire (both 6x8) and I've never had either 'spaz out'.

The Bamboo is good for the hobbyist, but if you want to use this professionally you're better of getting the Grapphire or Intuos (or if you have plenty of money lying around, get a Cintiq)

natural drawing and drawing on a computer are not the same...'yet'. However you can become adept at both with some practice with their particular humps and the right equipment. Wacoms would be my advice. i don't know which one i have... hang on...just had a look, it's an Intuos 3... never had any problems with it. i have used the same tablet at a few different studios and never a problem there either... no need to set any settings... pressure gauge or whatever else... just plug it in and go. It's worth spending the extra money ... I also have a smaller one that is equally good quality.

also.... what does 'LTRFTW' mean?

i realise this is a very OLD topic by now but i just wanted to update incase anyone else was in the same situation...

i managed to buy a bamboo one tablet new off ebay.

IT IS THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!! i realise it is an older model without the scrolling buttons that are available on the 'FUN' models but it really is worth the money!

i should have just bought one of these from the start instead of rtying to shop around and save money. maybe i had a rubbish Trust tablet, perhaps they are usually okay to use but i can only reccomend wacom and their bamboos!

so easy to set up and the bundled software 'Art Rage 2' is really quite fun and unusual in the way it handles. im happy with my purchase. i do believe i paid in the higher region of 30 pound or something. well worth it. feels very natural and responsive to use. thanks again for everyones help!

Interesting results, Laura, I may try this. I've always wondered about tablets myself.
