The Free Caricature thread- Add your photos here!

Postby krisvahl » Tue Mar 17, 2009 5:16 pm

For those of you who want to try their luck at getting a free caricature from any of the caricaturists on The Drawing Board, add your photos here.

It could be of yourself, your spouse or a family member. Heck, it could even be of your pet or your car!

On the other hand, if you are a caricaturist, amateur or pro, and want to draw others in return, you can participate on this thread- http://www.drawingboard.org/viewtopic.php?t=25023

Otherwise, post your photos here.

Please note that there is no obligation or guarantee that anyone will draw your caricature on this thread. It will come soley from the generosity of the artist. So play nice.

For the caricaturists who participate, it will be a good resource of photos that you can use for practice, experiment with or just fall back on when there's nothing else to draw.

Have fun!

I don't know the legalities. However, it would be nice if by posting a photo here, the poster gives us permission to use it as a sample if we choose, in exchange for the caricature. I know that would encourage me to draw for nothing ;-)

I don't want to make it a mandatory rule, as a) it may discourage people from posting their photos and b) not every caricaturist may wish to use their drawings for that purpose.

We can just give people the option when they post up their photo to give permission or not. If they understand that those that do give permission are more likely to be caricatured by more artists, it may encourage them to agree.

I really want this to be an open thread and not bog it down with too many rules.

If someone posts their picture here then they are giving pre-approval for us to draw their face. And because the art is ours we don't have to ask their permission to use it as a sample. If you're not using the image to print on product or sell something tangible then there's no legal issue here.

I guess I'll start! Luna says there's no problem with using her photos. Draw/paint away.

Caricature

I think I got carried away with the hair. It's fun to draw curly hair. I'm VERY open to critiques. Trying to develope a better eye for caricatures.

A friend of mine who doesn't draw, so this tread would be great. It would be so cool to see a caricature of her from fresh eyes and not my own for a change.

:D this is very very nice. i am a tad surprised to see so much sharp angles on
your rendition for a roundish face.
I'd love to have a caricature from you, so i'll probably play soon and post photos.

Thanks Rod.

Yeah, in the cold light of morning, I did find a few things wrong with this pic. I've posted a revised version where I've slightly reduce the angles on her face a bit (also reduced her eye size and some other stuff). I had made the mistake of letting an angular style of inking dictate how I'd interpret her features.
