my girlfriend dragged me to see "bolt" a couple of weeks ago (which wasn't bad considering it's troubled history -- but that's another topic) and i was disappointed there was no short playing before it. especially since Glago's Guest, a short rumored to be attached to it, sounded interesting. i guess this explains the strategy -- drum up some additional second run interest in the film by attaching some new content.

a topic for conversation... while i thought the film was solid, "Cars" didn't hold any real appeal for me. now we get a short and supposedly a sequel is in the works as well. Is there a real audience for this material or is it getting pushed because it's Mr. Lasseter's pet project? if it's the latter, i guess he's earned that right, it just sits funny with me considering the stringent critical eye Pixar usually focuses on their material.

not trying to be a hater here, i'm genuinely interested in what the board thinks.

Although Cars is my least favorite Pixar film, I do think there is still a huge group of kids (boys?) out there that adore the film. Ratatouille and Wall-E merchandise has come and gone, but to my amazement, there is an isle in the toy store near me filled with Cars stuff and it has been there ever since the film was released in theaters. I am not excited about all these new cars films in the making, but it is a big cash machine for pixar and I think that might be a part of why they are doing more cars stuff. I have nothing to prove that, just a gut feeling.

That's a good point. That movie is merchandisable as hell. Probably the most of any of their films (with the possible exception of Toy Story).

Pretty sure Cars IS the most merchandized of all Pixar's films.

And while I give the deserved props to the animators behind this short, I could honestly not care less about ever seeing anything involving these characters again.

After Winnie the Pooh & the Disney Princesses 'brand' CARS is the biggest merchandise money maker; hence the upcoming sequel. Did anyone see the CARtoons shorts? They were on YouTube but were taken down. They look great-very well crafted little vignettes. I don't have the problems with CARS that so many others do, I find it very entertaining, beautifully realized & quite innovative in its cinematography. It's highly undervalued . . .but then I like the MADAGASCAR flicks too!

i think my favorite car animations. are the ones done by cheveron. back in the day. they had to deal with birds pooing on them. and to me that was suhweet! plus they had goofy smiles.
