I saw this trailer before Quantum of Solace. When it opened up, I kept thinking "What the hell is this movie?" Then the kid yelled "My name is James Tiberius Kirk!" and I flipped my biscuit.

Considering my interest in Star Trek has been at best mildly warm/lukewarm, I'm surprised at how excited and curious I am to see this. Plus, do my eyes deceive me, or was that a shot of Leonard Nimoy? I'm gonna place money on it that he's Spock's dad or grandad in someway...which makes it weird when you think about it.

If the trailers keep strong like this and the movie follows suite, I'll be really happy to see this.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.
I'm not a die hard star trek fan or anything, but since my brother is quite a trekkie, I've grown to like it.

So it's a bit weird to see something that looks like "star trek: extreme!"
What's up with that Robocop thing at the beginning?

I do appreciate that they sexed it up again though. I''ve always been a fan of the female uniforms on the classic show. And the trailer shows that Uhura will be taking it off as well, excellent.

I think "Robocop" was just a helmet with a voice filter. Since besides the odd siren, it's the only thing in that intro that screamed "Hey, this ain't your time!"

Pretty insane visual montage at the end there. Looks like a lot of fun... enough nods to the classic with plenty of "new" to update it all.

Looks like a great way to start off the 2009 summer movie season!

looks interesting. it has the potential to be really terrible, but i'm optimistic that, at the very least, it will be a fun popcorn movie.

i do have one concern. if you're going to update the formula, it seems like one of the main things you would do is get some strong female roles in there. it appears there is only one major female character in the trailer and we only see her undressing and horizontal. i know they are limited by the source material, but come on. it's not like abrams doesn't know how to make strong female characters.

The old Star Trek show was pretty progressive in its day. I really don't think this movie is going to be any more than a lark, for the most part. Movies like this don't have a tendency to break the mold.

The thought of Kirk and Uhura fucking is a little squicky to me, to be honest.

I don't know what squicky means. My penis will agree or disagree, depending.

2. squicky

Disgusting, icky, weird, often referring to something that is squelchy - imagine poking a vat of goo, and the sound you will make is similar to "squick".
"It felt all squicky and disgusting..."

"Ewww, that is so SQUICKY!"

gotta love urban dictionary.

Looks great to my eyes.

But...why does Kirk look like Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) at the beginning of the trailer? Is Abrams suggesting a possible relationship between the two characters? Perhaps Tasha is Kirk's mother in an alternate timestream? I'm curious to see how that plays out. Does anyone know if Denise Crosby is listed in the credits?
