Trick 'r Treat

Postby HellboyOne » Sat Oct 11, 2008 2:02 pm

Saw Trick 'r Treat last night at Screamfest 2008. This movie will go down as one of the great Halloween horror cult classics. It really should rise above cult status but, inexplicably, Warner Bros. is still dragging their feet on a full theatrical release. Made with Warner's pocket change, Trick 'r Treat pays homage to 80s mainstays like Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt, even Goonies and Monster Squad, but elevates it to an almost horror version of Pulp Fiction in terms of structure. It's got great scares, great laughs, and is just fun as all hell.

It's making the horror film festival rounds right now. Hopefully, all the positive buzz and reviews will convince WB to give it a proper release in theaters.

Thanks to Drawing Board pal Breehn Burns (who served as concept designer as well as title sequence designer on the movie), I got to contribute a couple days work to the film and I'm proud to have my work featured for a few seconds in the movie. Check out Breehn's amazing concept art in the art-of book, in bookstores. Some of it can be seen here:

Old fogey time:

It really pisses me off when a film like this with its obvious care, artistry and attention to detail sits on a shelf while crap like Saw IV has no problem getting released.

Kids these days.

Saw it yesterday and it's true. It is an instant classic. Very fun.

Super fun movie! The reveal for Anna Paquin's story was especially satisfying. The whle thing just looks great too!

it's shame this couldn't get into theaters, but I can see how it would be difficult to try and market theatrically

this is SO good. a surefire cult hit, I'm sure word of mouth will help this thing sell well.

visually one of the best horror movies I've seen in a longtime. I'm so sick of movies that beat you over the head with bad cg... take a cue from this movie hollywood!
