Given all the truly fantastic work in this thread I'm flattered you chose my little sketch to use for a reference. I see you added scales... I'm usually too lazy to get that detailed. You might want to try rotating it and then saving again so that is shows right side up in the thread though. Welcome to the drawingboard! We'll take more dragons any time.

just a lil dragon in flight I drew this the other night just a waiten for dinner to get done! The other dragon I posted long ago will be back on the drawing board this fall for my full attention.... but till then I hope you enjoy this one...

As far as your pic goes I think your basic dragon concept is pretty good. I take it you are trying to make him more or less serious, but some of the structure could use some work. Basically, for example, how the front legs are attached. They are skinny, but that isn't the problem I see. I believe you need to work on making them look like they belong to the body, not just stuck onto it.

This would be true of any type of animal you wish to draw, so with that in mind, you might do well to get a book to get you started in the right direction.
How To Draw Animals by Jack Hamm might be good starter book. I think learning regular animal anatomy to some degree will go a long way toward improving how your imaginary critters come out. Welcome to the drawingboard!

cartuneman Evidently dinner was something a little more substantial than a peanut butter sandwich 'cause I can't believe this took just a few minutes. That is a really super in flight dragon! I dig the clouds in the background too. Cool pic.

hey thanks for the advice, yeah had a bit of trouble when i was drawing the legs, i actualy drew it bout 5 or 6 years ago lol. thanks again

Wow, everyone here was amazing!! Weel, i've been lurking and this is my first post with a pic attached. I used a simple program call ArtWeaver just to touch up the pen areas. Althoug the painting isn't that great, this was %110,000,000 inspired by the website. I've found my drawing heaven!

Tegix62 Yes this is a mighty fine place to scope out some great stuff and learn a few things too. Glad you were inspired and cool that you posted and no one said it has to be great stuff to post. It appears that dragon rider has his hands full. Keep at it, enjoy the board, and welcome.

Scotie I'm liking this. Good wings, head and rear legs. Again, there is not a "rule" on dragon anatomy, but in the interest of balance perhaps shorten the tail, and lengthen the neck. It is still pretty good, I just think it would help his symmetry. Perhaps on the next one.

Steven J. Neptune Man Welcome to the Drawingboard. Glad you posted. As I said to another person, it doesn't have to be great, but as I have also suggested to a few others I think finding some sort of basic drawing reference / instructional material would benefit you. Drawing is a great pass time and I like to encourage people to draw. I especially like to see people improve but it takes good utilization of fundamentals and practice practice practice. I'm still practicing and hopefully improving. I figure very few good artist got to be good without practice. Again, Welcome to the drawingboard and have fun drawing.
