How about a Mentor thread, celebrating those who inspire or command the heroes.

How about jams devoted to whole decades? The 1940's jam, The 1970's jam, etc. An 80's jam would certainly be popular. They could feature characters from or set in that decade (i.e. The Rocketeer would fit into the 1930's or 1980's jams.). You could even start with a 30's jam and continue chronologically toward the present.

It's just narrow enough to work as a jam topic, but broad enough to encompass a wide variety of genres. Maybe have decade jams between the more specific jams?

Just a thought.

At long last, here's an updated list

October 2008: It's a kind of magic - Those who practice the arcane arts, for good or bad.

November 2008: The '30s - The first of a series of Jams dedicated to a particular decade. Characters or stories either originally from, or taking part in, the 1930s.

December 2008: They came from outer space - Visitors from the stars who have found their way to Earth, either to befriend or conquer us.

January 2009: Appearances can be deceiving - Characters who disguise themselves as others or who can change shape

February 2009: The '40s - Characters or stories either originally from, or taking part in, the 1940s.

March 2009: Who Watches the Watchmen? - To coincide with the release of the movie, a Jam dedicated to Moore & Gibbons' classic tale.

April 2009: Somewhere beyond the sea - Characters who have some kind of aquatic affiliation

May 2009: Star Trekking - With the latest incarnation transporting into cinemas this month, a celebration of Gene Roddenberry's long lasting sci-fi franchise

(also in May will be a Character Jam for Batman, as he reaches his 70th year in publication)

Gotta be a Ninja Turtles Jam in 2009 for the 25th anniversary of the characters. :)

I'll need to check on the date for that, Darren, but I'm sure something can be done (as long as it's not in May)

Heh. According to Wikipedia, the first issue was released in May of 1984 but I'm sure any time during the year would be fine. :D

i was thinking about characters from the victorian/old west era.
Could that make a thread? A lot of european comics characters come to mind and , ironically, just a few from american comics.
Since we 're gonna enjoy a 30's thread (which i 'm looking forward too) could we go farther in time and make it worth?

How about a "second-generation" jam? It could feature superheroes who have kids, or characters like Cable, the Huntress, or Orion who have super parents.

Aside from that, has there been a magic-user jam in awhile?

Other ideas:
Rock-based powers or looks
Metallic heroes
Child superheroes
Saturday-morning cartoon heroes (like Blue Falcon)
Undead characters

I really admire the work here!

Like your Ideas Blacklight.
In keeping with the recurring decade theme
what about a characters set/created from pre history to the Renaissance.
like Robin Hood, Achilles, Tor, Samson, Sinbad, etc
