D'oh! You're right. Been awhile since I saw the teaser, but that's clearly it. Not sure where "seven years ago" came from.

Wall-E is actually IN Toy Story, hidden in a background....right when Buzz "flies" Woody back into the sunroof. He actually pokes his eyes out, too....

He's also in the Incredibles garage, and in pit row during Cars.

This movie is incredible. I am such a curmudgeon about story telling, and this satisfied me about 99% ! The only part that felt off to me was the Captain of the ship going from being like all the other people on the ship, to pushing for them returning to earth, but even then they did set that up with the two passengers that became unengaged from their automatic entertainment and started enjoying things on their own(star gazing, splashing in the pool).
As for kids not enjoying it...I hope many adults realize it's probably because they have raised their kids to only enjoy be able to enjoy instant and obvious forms of entertainment. Yeah, I'm one of those bitchy adults :?

Have seen it twice now. You know I'm fond of those Pixar guys and gals!

Love the bots. Not satisfied with the humans - live or animated.

I think potentially eliminating the humans, especially the live action ones, would have left my focus on the bot love story and not pulled it out wondering why are there live action people in this film? It would have been fine to see a human at the end of the movie, like a reversal of the typical aliens sighting at the end of sci-fi films. I think they could have just reanimated the Hello Dolly live actors and it would have still conveyed the points across fine. I understand if it was an attempt at the classic Disney 2D/live action combination films, but it just didn't work for me. I'm also not saying Pixar should never do live action, I know Bird's next will probably be live action, but this one...hmmm...

Stanton and Docter and the rest of the team are brilliant and this film is mostly so, but I really thought the live-action took away from the film slightly. The overweight characters in the film weren't visually to my liking either, but I understand why they were there, especially as an interesting comment on our overconsumptive society in general.

Johnny 5 (no matter how you spin it)...er WALL?E was a character with a lot of life, and along with the rest of the bots, EVE especially, Ben Burtt's sound design work was nothing short of spectacular. He helped bring these characters to life as much as the story folks, animators, and modelers, etc.

This is easily one of the best animated films in a while, but concentrating on the love story between the robots would have been enough for me.

Oh, and Thomas Newman's score was fantastic! Really enjoyed the end credit sequence too!

Regardless, a fun film and a worthy addition to Pixar's creations.

Spotted Ted and Jamie's names in the credits.....saw Ronnie's drawing in the Art Of.

But I have to ask, did the unused "gel" translucent skin just get moved over to the alien abduction short from awhile back?

I can see how using the Gel people concept might be "too" far for people to buy logically in the movie....I still think it'd be neat to have seen kept in place, though.

SPOILERS

As much as I love the movie, I'd have to say my only gripe would be that humans wouldn't be able to come back.
The effect of microgravity, even off by a small percentage of Earth's standard grav wouldn't allow them to ever come back to Earth.
But Wall-E's inadvertent shaking of their status quo could still be shown, with the future earthlings traveling off into space for real adventure! And this time, they'd be looking out the windows, instead of on their personal viewscreens!

It almost seemed too easy to return to Earth...one quick hyperjump!

And call me a sadist, but I'd love if Eve took a lot longer to rebuild Wall-E.....could have almost been a reverso-story of what we saw earlier......Eve sifting through wreckage, slowly finding replacement parts. The other side of the loneliness and longing for companionship in Eve.

Maybe I just wanted to see more one on one time with them. Even if one was incapacitated.

I'd also have been cool with Wall-E not coming back.....well, the Wall-E that we knew, anyway. I guess that'd be too harsh....
When the repaired Wall-E just started rolling off to do his job, I was fighting back the tears, but was thinking, "they don't have to guts to have wiped him....it'd be awesome, but they just can't".
I LOVE being held like that.....should have dragged it out a LOT longer!

FInally got to see it. Very sweet film. I was a little surprised that I wasn't blown away by it though.

Not to say that I thought it was a bad film, it was amazing. I actually think I'll grow to love it on home video.

It probably sounds strange, but I feel some films just work better in the comfort of my own home.
It feels like a very intimate and personal film, and it's a pretty straight forward story, I don't think the a large theatre at the local multiplex is the right environment to watch this film in.

I mean, I love "My neighbour Totoro". I love the relaxed pacing of that film and that ultimately nothing really important happens in that film, it's great. But I'm not sure if I had been equally impressed by it, if I had seen it in the theatres.

I think the same will go for Wall-E.
