I thought it was magnificent. Probably the most daring and groundbreaking film to come out of an American animation studio in, oh, forever.

Pretty much. This is Pixar's most mature, outright artistic film. I won't be surprised if Disney pushes for a Best Picture nomination over Best Animated Feature this year.

I'm actually kind of worried about that. I mean, the strain of this progressively sophisticated storytelling being latched their family friendly content is starting to show. I mean the common thread I'm hearing here is "Incredible movie, but the kids weren't as interested." and the handful of bad reviews for the movie are basically along the lines of, "Actually, this was pretty good, but they could have taken it so much further."

Like was mentioned, no other animation studio has pushed for sophisticated storytelling more than Pixar, but there's only so far you can go and stil be 'family friendly' and it sounds like they may have reached that point. So now what?

When it comes to creative based endevours, it seems the common consensus is that if you're not moving forward, you're moving backward. So this means if they can't burst that kid bubble and start telling more mature stories, we're gonna see a studio regress to fluffy bunny crap. Well...maybe not, but it still will end up feeling like a missed opportunity.

Now what?

Moonman I think the "Now what" would be to make 2 kinds of films for 2 seperate audiences. I'm thinking of Disney back in the 80's when they created Touchstone to release their pg films. Andrew Stanton is supposedly working on a script for a John Carter of Mars film. If you're familar with those books they are surely pg-13. Loads of sword fights and bizarre creatures and half naked women. (I for one would love to see pixar render that!) If they had a different production name on the head of that film it would leave them free to develope the fluffy bunnies for the kids under the ole pixar banner.

The kids at my showing ate this movie up like it was made of chocolate covered heroin.

What, like, two? The film is being hailed as genius by 97% of critics.

So what if kids aren't interested. Maybe this is the film that proves that animation can be for adults too.

it's pretty funny that people bitch and moan about how animated flicks are too kiddy and then when they're finally not, they find a way to bitch and moan about that too

I'm looking forward to this...I'm glad the respnse about it sounds as good as the movie looks

I want to see it even more now that some fat people are offended by the way they are portrayed in the movie.
Gotta love it; Sedentary fat people who complain that the fat people in the media are sedentary and lazy. Hmmm.
Can't wait! I think if Pixar was a person I would have him locked in my basement for my own amusement.
EXCITED!!!
:D :D :D

Oh, FYI, they made a whole website for BuynLarge. It's very complex and detailed, with fake adds for movies and market research. Explore it; it's worth it. Like the world news which is another site all togheter.

Check it out!

The handling of the fat people in the movie is very even-handed and inoffensive. They're the end result of 700 years of being completely catered to by automation, not stupid, ugly things.

I went to see Wanted this weekend instead of WALL?E due to peer pressure, and I feel like I want to kill myself twice. Soon! Very soon I will see this!

Could be wrong (I have not seen it yet), but I think the proper word is sophisticated....

It's like a real movie...

It's the most confidently directed of all Pixar's films. There's choices that are made in terms of staging and pacing that go well beyond anything they've done before as a studio. When I say it's their most mature film, I mean that. It's a far more outright artistic and thoughtful endeavor than any of their previous movies.

It also has the most ambitious narrative of any of their films - it tackles some pretty bleak themes and has a real earnest social message. Sophisticated is exactly the right word for it.
