SO
it was pretty good. Not great, but not bad.
****SLIGHTLY SPOILERISH REVIEW (without actually getting into plot points or specific dialogue)****
It gets off to a slow start. It seems confused about what path it wants to take, and feels disjointed because it doesn't want to have a central character, so we end up sitting with characters for long periods of time while wondering what's going on with the others at the time. It's definately more of a theme-driven movie as opposed to a plot-driven one. I think the advertising for it was off a lot, and gives the viewer expectations of something that they are ultimately NOT going to see.
It is genuinely HILARIOUS. There are moments of gut-busting laughter. Both George Clooney and Brad Pitt are comic genuises in this movie, and their performances even more so than the dialogue they're given gets them a LOT of laughs. Malcovich is of course great, and while he is given some funny material to with, his character is morose, very negative, and at the same time very victimized throughout the film.
sooooo...it's worth seeing, but in the end I would probably call this one of the weaker Coen Brothers films. Will discuss further once others have seen it
