Universal vs. YouTube and MySpace takes its first casualty:

Quote taken from Digg:
Trent Reznor describes how Universal's desperate, potentially devastating lawsuit against YouTube and MySpace has prevented him from launching an innovative new website: "We are challenged at the last second to find a way of bringing this idea to life without getting splashed by the urine as these media companies piss all over each other?s feet."

Even if you don't like his music, it's hard not to appreciate and support what he's been doing to bring music into the digital age. These record companies seem to be doing everything they can to ensure they become obsolete very soon.

Hilarious. Record companies are just scrambling like ants trying to figure out how to make money (aka screw artists and consumers out of billions) in the digital age.

I'm hoping that at least 10 major mainstream artists become their own record companies and start shilling their music online. Once a core group does this and is successful at it, the rest will follow. (And really, they'll only be following the lead of hundreds of indie artists who've been doing it already.)

Everyone...take 5 bucks and buy that Saul Williams album. It's the future!
