Jam 44 - Pulp Fiction

Postby em... » Tue Jul 31, 2007 4:46 pm

This month's Jam is dedicated to those characters from the pulp magazines and crime fiction of the 1930s-50s; modern characters who are influenced by that era; or just art in that style.

To start off, The Shadow:

Great theme em!

Here's an old 100 bullets drawing that I tried to make kind of pulpy. I'll try to do something new.

One scroll down the page, four artists and I get to see four completely different styles of work...excellent! I'm looking forward to participating this month.

Here's a Shadow I did last year.

I hate posting old stuff but probably won't have time for anything new.

Awesome stuff starting off.
They're all great but em...'s is seriously wicked cool and heathen's just blasts right off the page!

this is... ugh.... sorry, but I put way too much time into this crappy thing not to post it, but I might kill the thread, so apologies in advance.

em...: my high praise to you for opening this jam always with such great images,
Euan :D Love the zoom sfx and he looks just sppoky :)
Global Nihilism: I love the contrast between him looking cute/cartoony and the
gun/cigarette :D
heathencomics: I knew there was a reason to ask you what I asked you: these
are freaking great, Gabriel :D The Buck Rogers looks cool with all the retro equipment,
but that Shadow takes the cake :)
VoteQuimby: great reworking of your 100 bullets illo, Terry - I can definitely breath
the pulp feel of it :)
Steev: always enjoyh your washes and these are two great re-posts, but now
do something new, come on :D One little crit: the car in the shadow pic looks a tad small
compared to the shadow.
ryancody: cool headshot, Ryan, and I am hoping to see a more developed illo :)
bangalore_monkey: cool pics but I prefer the Flash more, maybe because of the
use of the greys and the big shadows :)

Took an hour this morning to do this. I am still behind on my stuff but I couldn't pass on a
pulp jam. Hopefully I will have some more later on. (I am still planning to tackle a couple
of doctors for the previous jam...)

Cheers,
Francesco

Awesome stuff everyone.

em...,
I dig your Shadow. Colour treatment and effects evokes Bill Sienkiewicz.

heathencomics,
Loving your Kaluta-like Shadow.
Your Buck Rogers rocks as well.

TheRonin,
You are a master of mood...and Shadow.

Here's a quick sketch of everyone's favourite lord of the jungle.
