I can only get a couple of songs in on Hard... That Wolfmother song's chorus is bloody fucking impossible.

I can't get 95 to 98% on Cowboys from hell on medium now but it took a bit. I love Alice In Chains. I saw them when they opened for Van Halen for their Facelift album. Being in Baton Rouge Layne Staley noticed that David Duke was running for I believe Governor (which he lost) at the time and closed the show with "Thank you, you've been great, Fuck David Duke and goodnight!" I laughed my ass off. Them Bones would not have been my choice of one of their songs and the bass is too loud on GH II. It's not a great cover. I thought Instrumentally that Killing in the name of sounded great! The vocals are shit. It's hard to properly sound like a prepubescent boy.

Well, I've moved onto Hard on the first game, and I managed to five star all the first tier tracks. I tried hard on the second game, but it's nearly impossible for me. It's obviously working under the assumption that you played the first game, so it starts off pretty mercilessly. In Guitar Hero 1, it starts you off pretty slow, with the orange button only showing up in "I Love Rock and Roll" once or twice, and then moving you up to using red as your start button with "Infected", which is a hell of a lot of fun to play.

A few more practices through, and I MIGHT attempt Shout at the Devil on Hard again.

Okay, here's a question for you guys - I've just started playing on Hard level. I've managed to do okay with the first 5 songs but after that things fall apart pretty quickly and I get booed off stage. When I'm playing on Medium I have my left hand positioned so that each finger is assigned one colour on the frets - left index finger for green, to the pinky for blue. In Hard there's the orange notes to contend with. Is it easier to start the songs with my index finger on red and shift over to green when necessary? Or still use my index finger for green?

Sometimes those scales from orange to green seem frigging impossible.

Well, for the first one, it's like Helix says. It's nice and progressive with the orange button, but if you're talking about the second one, you pretty much hafta switch on the fly constantly. Usually, however at the start of the song, you're only going to use the bottom four, so start there. Just get in the habit of being able to switch all your fingers up one button and havin that pinky stretch for any surprises.

On hard, at least in the first game, past "I Wanna Be Sedated", I always start with my index finger on red, rather than green. It's much easier for me to shift my index finger up to green than it is for me to stretch my pinky to orange.

"Infected" is a REALLY good song to practice for that.

Hmmm. I have a decent pinky stretch and I was already used to keeping my fingers in the index on green positition. So I haven't really tried using my index to stretch opposed to my pinky. I think I'll give it a try the other way to see if it works any better.

This morning I finally got around to buying a replacement for my broken controller, and I picked up a Nyko wireless controller from GameStop. It's a nice replacement, with my only complaint being that the Whammy Bar is kinda all or nothing. That ultimately doesn't matter, since you can still use it fine, it's just not as sensitive as the first-party controller's whammy bar, so you can't really make your own neat distortions with it.

It's shaped basically like the X-Plorer model, and feels just as good to hold as the regular controllers. Plus, it's a good $20 cheaper than the first party wireless controller. I'd recommend it if anyone's looking to get a wireless gee-tar, or just wants a second one for multiplayer.
