Searching for a movie

Postby Lester McToil » Tue Apr 24, 2007 6:17 pm

I've been searching for this movie for the last few months. I saw it about seven years ago and this is what I remember.

A young woman reporter hears of this reclusive "monster" that lives in an abandoned house or cave in some remote part of Ireland. I remember her getting in an accident and needing serious surgery. She has the surgery and heads out to find this monster. She meets him and he ain't so bad. He just wants to be left alone. I think she brings him back to the big city and he becomes famous. Maybe not.

Ring a bell?

I think I know what movie your talking about. Waaaaay back in the day I remember seeing a VHS tape where the cover was a cheesy looking monster wearing human clothes and a somber expression following around this chick on a city street.

Your description sounds like "No Such Thing" directed by Hal Hartley.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0248190/

It starred Sarah Polley and Robert John Burke.

Bingo Artosaurus! That's the ticket! But I guess Moonman found it first even though he didn't have much for me to go on other than a description of the video box cover (good memory, dude).

I actually enjoyed the movie. The girl was cute and the monster was grumpy. What more do you want?

Thanks very, very much, Art. DId you just hapen to remember that title?

I'm a big fan of Hal Hartley, so thanks for this.
I've never heard of it.

i was joking, that's actually not the movie this thread is about...but yes, "mac and Me" was indeed a McDonald's-financed ET rip-off which prominently featured the fast food chain and a character named after the Big mac sandwich

You're welcome, Lester. :)
I'm a Hal Hartley fan and had seen it several years ago, so I knew that it was one of his as soon as I read your description, but I couldn't remember the wording of the title. I checked out the list of Hartley films on the IMDB and, bing bang boom, there it is.

I have a heck of a time remembering titles. A description, star list or director will usually ring
a bell, but titles are often lost in the jumble.

I watch waaay too many movies. :)
