Dan Aykroyd Talks Ghostbusters Game

Boy, the upcoming Ghostbusters game already has quite the storied, confusing history?especially for a game that hasn't been announced. Let's recap quickly. YouTube videos surface. Fearing further disappointment in life, we doubt they're real. Turns out they are. We rejoice. Then, Sony supposedly pulls the plug.

Now, it appears that the game is indeed on, regardless of whether current developer Zootfly is at the helm. According to Dan Aykroyd (aka the Ghostbuster's Dr. Ray Stantz):

Universal purchased the rights from Sony for a game. I'm actually going to have to perform and do some motion capture for them. That will be next year.
Well, that about wraps that up. A Ghostbusters game is coming, but not before some time next year, if Aykroyd's dates are to be believed. Michael McWhertor

That's gonna take all year...between Aykroyd taking breaks and trying not to die.

 Yeah Rick, he's also recently made comments that Ghostbusters 3 (The Movie) would be CG Animated, that way Bill would be willing to make it. But then he said it would have to be more family friendly because of that. The plus would be not having to see them drag their ancient carcasses back on screen to see how old the GB's are, the bad side is I don't think I could stand Ghostbusters getting much more family friendly than part 2 was. Doesn't Dan know that they make cartoons for grown-ups now?

Do we have any of these rumours confirmed? The only reason I ask is because Im wondering if somewhere along the line, the information has got its wires crossed.

Universal have brought the rights to the Ghostbusters game from Sony, while Sony (who I assume still own the movie rights) are going to make a new all cgi film? That doesn't make sense.

All I have is Dan Aykroyd flapping his gums about it. I know that doesn't mean a whole lot anymore. It could be he has his wires all crossed up. I was just posting what he said. But it's not odd for a company to sell rights for a movie-to-game to another company for publishing. If sony doesn't want to incur the cost of developing the game in case it does poorly, they can make money buy selling the rights to others and they don't incur the risk. Also it could be The Sony film division being seperate from the game division and one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Or Dan is just talking out his Ass trying to get anything with GB happening. http://movies.ign.com/articles/761/761338p1.html
February 5, 2007 - Ever since Ghostbusters II was released in 1989, there's been talk on and off about a third film in the supernatural comedy series. The main obstacle to such a film happening is generally thought to be star Bill Murray, who has expressed reservations about returning to the supernatural comedy well one too many times. But now, series costar and co-writer Dan Aykroyd believes he may have found a way to make Ghostbusters III a reality.

During an interview with radio station CISN, as relayed by Cinema Blend, Aykroyd revealed that Murray will do a third film as long as its an animated project -- meaning that he's willing to be heard, but not seen. Obviously, this is a process the actor has become acquainted with in recent years with the Garfield films, in which he provided the voice of the title character.

So according to Aykroyd -- who has been shilling Ghostbusters III for so long now that it should be noted that his word is not exactly indication of a greenlight for the project -- the new film will be entirely of the CG variation. And it will be epic, he says, as he'll no longer be facing the limitations of live-action filmmaking. The often-mentioned storyline that has the Ghostbusters team finding themselves in a hellish version of New York, however, will probably not be used, as the animated picture will have to go for more of a family film style storyline.

Aykroyd spends his off-time as a full-blown UFOlogist. It's grain-of-salt time when his gums are a-flappin'.

Yeah, the new footage looks darn cool. PS3 only sadly, which makes sense since its a Sony property, but it would definitely be a super cool Wii game.

Would be nice feature to change the perspective to first person as well as third.

Looks like I'll be buying a PS3 for this and God of War 3. Which I'm sure is what Sony intended of course.

Everything I've read so far says Terminal Reality is developing the game for th3 360, PS3, and PC and is being published under Vivendi Universal's Sierra label. So Sony can make some money behind the scenes on multiple platforms.

Ooh...I hope the PC rumor is right. That means I'll still be able to play this without buying a new system. Woohoo!

(Although I might have to pony up for a new video card.)

I rented it before I possibly buy it. I'm playing on the Professional level and it's taking me FOREVER to get past this one level in Times Square with Opera Diva ghosts, Hobo ghosts and gargoyles. But this game, while there are some minor flaws is a blast!

The dialogue is fun, but the delivery is a bit dry in places. I chalk this up to the fact that the cast probably weren't together in the one room to banter back and forth naturally. It's only a minor flaw, but you can tell, Akroyd and Ramis can still write some great stuff!

This game is also great way to introduce a new character too. Unlike the general caps-lock using fanboy crowd on Internet sites, I've always been interested in the whole idea of Ghostbusters franchises mentioned in the films. I want to see what the other Ghostbusters can bring to the mix. Looking forward to film #3!

Well you might want to just play at "Experienced", since there's really no competitive play component to justify making yourself frustrated by the single player mode. I'm playing on Experienced and have found it is a sufficient challenge while still being fun.
