Illustrator - ID = 50 Can't Open FIle UPDT - FIXED. Thanks!

Postby Marty M » Tue Nov 28, 2006 5:10 pm

Has anyone had this problem with Illustrator files - where it gives you something called an ID=50 - and then states it can't open file? It then proceeds to open the file, but parts and pieces of the image you've worked so hard on seem to be missing.

Is there any way to retrieve the information that was in the original file? It's supposedly still there...at least the preview shows the image in its final save.

Any help on this would be great, since I have two files that I need to make into high res files - but my original .ai's are corrupt.

Thanks for any input should anyone have any idea what I'm asking about.

Haven't seen it, but here are some links that might help.

Marty, haven't had the problem myself. dissappointed that Adobe doesn't seem to publish any listing of their error codes, at least none that I could find.

You didn't explain your particular setup or where the file was located, but I found the following links on Adobe that might be of use. Of course, they recommend working with the file on the local machine, so if you are working from a network or external usb/firewire drive, that could be a possible problem especially if it's a large file.

Also, don't trust the preview, I know at least in Photoshop that it doesn't have to represent the actual image, that's how some people have taken the preview to a small image to reveal what the full image used to be.

Hey thanks Donovan.

My file is on my local machine - with the software local as well.

I'll check these links out and do some scouring.

Thanks again.

UPDATE:

FIXED! Those are some good advice links they gave.
