70s Playboy comics featuring blonde sci-fi heroine...

Postby Tim Fischer » Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:12 pm

I can't remember the name of the strip or the artist, although I think that it might have been Frank Thorne. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It was a comic strip, not the one-panel gags that Playboy is famous for. The heroine was blonde and she wore a little, red suit, and I think that she had a robot companion.

Any help tracking these old strips down would be appreciated!

was she always in space, or did you only see one of the stories? There was a great comic that ran for several years called Little Annie Fanny - every episode had a different setting. The art was gorgeous and it weas very gag-driven

Ummmm....if it was Frank Thorne, then it had to be Lann.....but I think he did that for Heavy Metal.....

Well...

Thanks for all the help guys.

It wasn't "Vaginella." The character I'm remembering was blonde, not a redhead. I don't think that it was "Lann," either, since it was serialized in Heavy Metal. While "Lorna" has the right hair color, does she date back to the late 70s? I don't know.

Thanks for all the efforts! I'm still searching.

I believe the character you are talking about is GHITA. More fantasy that sci-fi I think. Half naked woman with a sword in space?

Was it a recurring strip, or a one time thing?

Thorne had a strip with a blonde hillbilly girl named Moonshine Mcjuggs that ran in Playboy...she wore what looked like a blue denim bikini. He could have done a strip where she got abducted by aliens or something...

I'm not sure if it was a one shot or something that ran in a few Playboys, but Bob McLeod did some superheroine sexy spoof strip, and I believe it was in Playboy...Single Woman?...against the Male Chauvanist Pig?

huh, oh yeahhhhh, i remember...single-woman was a feature that originally ran in a short-lived NATIONAL LAMPOON knock-off called INSANITY.... originally drawn by mike nasser and joe rubinstein in faux-adams style....mc leod drew one or two further strips for playboy....

don't think it's what mr. fischer here is thinking of, though...blonde yes, but no outer space, no robot...

honestly, i don't really recall any playboy strip that matches those exact specs, and i know my 70's / 80's playboys pretty well....for instance, there was ANOTHER "sci-fi" strip by warren greenwood that ran for several installments, hero was a kinda hanna-barbera-esque space dog (with humanoid body), and there were alien space babes and such, but not as a lead character...no recurring robot either, as i recall...maybe this strip you're thinking of wasn't in playboy...?

I think Ghita of Alizarr is from Fantagraphics Books... I love a challenge so I will continue the hunt.
