Character Jam - The Beast (Hank McCoy)

Postby em... » Sun May 21, 2006 9:16 am

With his upcoming appearance in the latest X-Men movie it seemed a like good time to do a jam dedicated to a one of the original members of the X-Men - Dr Henry "Hank" McCoy AKA The Beast - created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

Character Info
Henry McCoy is a reknowned biochemist and expert in genetics. A cultured man, he is also well versed in literature, art and music (he is a piano virtuoso), and has a well developed sense of humour.

One of the original members of the X-Men, and one of its most consistent mainstays, Beast possesses great strength and amazing agility and coordination. He can perform many tasks with his feet as well as his mands.

Originally having only enlarged hands and feet, and a slighly ape-like physique, Hank has mutated more over the years - at first developing a full covering of blue fur and, more recently, has become almost cat-like in appearance.

Cheers.

It's all done in Photoshop. This is actually one of the quickest pictures I've ever done - about 20-30 minutes.

You really nailed the Cassaday Beast...this is pretty tight for 30 minutes.

WOW
I like how you went past the human look, that looks great!

And now I'm off to try and participate!

Thanks, guys.

SGeabhart - I think it was Frank Quietly who first drew the feline Beast in Grant Morrison's "New X-Men" (but I could be wrong about that, there may have been someone else before him). Mine was based more off Cassaday's though, as it was the reference I had closest to hand.

Bayn - Do you always comment in rhyming couplets? :D

The Quietly version looks a little more like the beast in "Beauty and the..."

...em: another great piece...you're the master! Though I'm not a real fan of the Thundercats look for beast (as you'll see).
Sam Ellis: I like the old zippotone look...
maverikanim: nice drawing and interesting take...
BoneOrchard: This is the design that I saw that originall confused me about Beast and Wolvy...I'd stopped reading comics by this point and only saw an occasional cover or two. Nice start.
Animal Qwacker: nice action pose...has the right feel for my sense of who the beast is...

Okay (cracking knuckles), here's a couple of Beasts that I've done. A new style Beast and an old school Beast..
