MM2 the beginning

Postby dsoto25 » Sun Mar 19, 2006 1:14 pm

My buddy posted mighty mouse on here and I could not resist posting one of my own.
When I saw the illustrations for Mighty mouse, I had to post. Growing up I used to love watching MM. For a while I have just been a tourist here. This is my first post. Can't wait to see what comes up next. Everyone on here is incredibly talented.

Interesting takes on MM..I'm along with Em.. with the traditional thing...here's Mighty Mouse and the Rodent League. I did a quick fill with the background..I'll redo it soon

Comments:

Page01:
mannycartoon: Great choice of charactersfor the Jam! Kinda right up my alley. I like your version, too. The second one reminds me of Splinter.
krisvahl: What are you trying to do? End the thread before it begins? Intimidating mofo...that rat is dy-no-mite!
em...: VERY nice. Powerful rendering.
senti: Great gestures! I love the design. Would like to see them fleshed out.
humbleego: That is wickedly weird! I love it. Great energy.
Darren M A Calvert: Nice! Clean, slick design.
porcelain: Classic! I love it!

Page02:
dsoto25: Haha, very creepy. eew!
MrImagination: Nice work!
mookie01: Thanks tons!

Holy s**t, Porcelain, that's on of my favorite things you've ever done! The curve of the cat's lines is astounding.

These are all great so far, but Zombotomy- that's priceless! For a static picture it's so animated.

This is a great idea for a jam, mannycartoon, thanks for starting it. I like both of your
renditions so far.
I used to love Mighty Mouse as a child, so this is a lot of fun to see
everyone's interpretations. I remember one Halloween I dressed up as Mighty Mouse,
and I got so frustrated because everyone called me MICKEY Mouse. I thought the red
cape and MIGHTY MOUSE T-SHIRT I was wearing should surely give it away, but I guess
not...
Now I won't rest until we also have an UNDERDOG thread.
Anyway--reviews so far:

Page 1:
krisvahl: Love it! Features your usual unique and unexpected take on a classic character.

Euan: You drawing cartoonish characters is not something I'm used to seeing, so it's great
to see this successfully accomplished change of pace.

senti: I love the deceptive simplicity of your designs. Would love to see more.

humbleego: Hilarious! Love his "area".

Darren M A Calvert: Great! That Mighty Mouse looks terribly sweet in the face...no villain would
ever suspect the beating they had coming.

porcelain: Wonderful! As always, I love the flow of your lines.

Page 2:

dsoto25: Love the creepily funny style. Is he cold or are his nipples always that prominent?

MrImagination: Heh heh...nice idea for the "Rodent League"

zombotomy: Ha ha--I love it. I should have known you'd deliver us MM on steroids.

And now here's my contribution to the thread.....

Lovely works on ol Mighty Mouse-I still remember the Spumco version of him which I used to love as a kid

porcelain-Brilliant stuff-love the "old" style mixed with yr own.

krisvahl-Wonderful job on a "meaner" looking Mighty.

humbleego-Ha-love it! So camp.

Darren M A Calvert- Cool, Clean, All American MM

dsoto25-A very cool first post-another campy MM-I can just see him batting his eyelids.

zombotomy-Love his expression-looks like hes eaten too much special cheese

StudioBueno- Very nice!

More stuff to ogle over!

Postby mannycartoon » Mon Mar 20, 2006 6:07 pm

dsoto25: Very simple composition, but it works. I really like yopur soft painted style. I love the expression on his face biting down on his lower lip batting his eyelashes and all. The posing is really well acted too, very animationed. The only crit i could give would be the right arm , it's biger than the left and seems to come out too far. With the belly, the stubble and the yellow it reminds of homer simpson! lol

MrImagination: I love their expressions! Mighty Mouse has that superman by Alex Ross look in his eyes. lol BatMouse is my favorite he's doing alot of acting. That pose if very expression. I will say this...it doen't look like a cohisive piece. They're all on their own corners not interacting. I can never remeber was it Bat-Bat or Deflator Mouse on the old Spumco Show?

zombotomy: I love it! Really strong lines and very over the top! He reminds me of those Super Body Builders mags out there. The look on his face is classic. He's posing for judges trying to show of all his work at the gym.

StudioBueno: What can I say but...blood teeth and spats! This is a great compostion, very iconic with MIghty posing for his girl after a triumphant battle. Oil Can Harry is all fuckered up! Your line work is enviable with clean upen shapes and very controled cross hatching.

porcelain: Another amazing piece!

Can't wait to sdee the next batch!

Before I forget here's two piees of animation from Terry Toons that feature big MIGHTY:

Nice take everyone, although I am probably the most pleased with Daryl's (Porcelain)...they are (no pun intended) the cat's meow...
I really want to participate in this one and I hope I can get something up before the deadline...but I guess if it is post-deadline I will still post it...
