Jam 27 - A Hoax, a Dream, or an Imaginary Tale

Postby em... » Wed Mar 01, 2006 3:08 am

This month's jam is all about Elseworlds, What If?s, Amalgams, Alternate Universes and other assorted stories that don't fit normal continuity. Draw your favourites or make up your own, or combine two characters to make a new one.

To start, Batman from Gotham by Gaslight:

Here's SPIDER-BOY-- I comic I worked on almost 10 years ago. He's from the AMALGAM UNIVERSE. He's a combination of SPIDER-MAN and SUPERBOY.

em...: Don't read comics much anymore, so I'm notfamiliar with this version of batman...but your painting looks very cool.
Michael Wieringo: Awesome drawing...weird character amalgamation.

Dave Johnson has been one of my top five favorite artists since his Superpatriot miniseries, and Penthouse comics. For this reason, i decided to do Superman from the Red Son.

*please excuse the gradiant BG...I'm cheap.

*edit: added a bit more 'red' to the pic

well mike, your spiderboy freaking rocks, only one question. WHY THE HECK didn't you do the second one with the LEgionaires???? It was soooo bad...

I never could get the whole Russian Superman idea...but very funny man

well I want to make a really really freaking good amalgam for you guys so I'm gonna post this one I did by request until then

I did this for a guy who wanted an amalgam of Nightcrawler and Quicksilver. Still have no idea what to call him..lol

but until I finish the good one this will hold its place

good reference for all you guys

has a list of every character, amalgam, universe, etc, including what ifs...

btw anything with protoman as the author is merely a joke. But other than that this has a great variety of references for pictures

Gotham by Gaslight was written in the 80's as the first of the elseworlds books. batman is placed in 1889 to battle jack the ripper
but to be truely honest...i havnt read a comic book in a good 7-8 years, i just know alot about them the characters and the storylines

Thanks for the kind word on my GBG Batman - I have to admit that I'm surprised that so many are unfamiliar with that particular tale.

Michael Wieringo - Wonderful Spiderboy sketch. I particularly like the shape of his mouth; zombotomy - A great take on such a normally stern character. The gradient background works just fine; jc_pawz - If your Nightcrawlet/Quicksilver cross has the speed of Quicksilver and the suppleness and agility of Nightcrawler, then Quickcrawler would work as a name.

Em>> Nice Batman! I havn't read that series myself but after seeing your painting I want too.

Michael Wieringo>> Great Spiderboy! Didn't his gun shoot webs? I forget, but I do remember some of the hero mixes.

zombotomy>> That's an awesome Red-Superman! Great style and colour!

jc_pawz>> Neat idea with the Quick-nightcrawler guy. His powers will be weird but interesting.

I had too look up the old amalgam thing, but I do remember this one. Speed-demon the cross between Ghost-Rider and the Flash. Quick sketch before bed.

This was an Elseworld Story I was working on years ago.

This would have been R. Grayson, Bruces partner in a Cop Story/SWAT story called the Batmen of Gotham.

This is a sketch I put together tonight but I'll be updating this with inks and colors soon.

Wow! All great stuff on this thread but I gotta say that Speed Demon concept takes the cake. That's a great idea and a cool costume design!

Great Jam so far, i'm really enjoying everyone's work.
em> Great Batman! makes me want to go back and read that issue. btw thanks for the comment about my Cosmic Human Torch and Thing, and you're right about the bg, I don't know what I was thinking.
Mike Wieringo> Great pic, he must have been alot of fun to draw. If I remember correctly, he would shoot webbing out of his gun.
Zombotomy>Love the russian superman, a little John K, and lots of tension.
JC_Pawz>He would have been a neat character to read, someone who runs really fast and can teleport, that could be really interesting power.
Jollyrodgers> I never heard of him, but I would love to see you color this guy just to see what kind of color scheme you would pick. Speed Demon could also be the name of JC's character as well.
Mannycartoon> I like the cop outfit, hope to see you finish this one...
Kool> So sorry Kool, didn't mean to copy you,....love the energy and the perspective in yours.
