'STAPLED' or 'PERFECT'bound?Does anyone perfer one over the other for like a 32 page comic.I notice that alot of people are drawn to perfect bound books.

I think Perfect Bound books give the impression of professionalism - somehow makes the book more "published" :) - but staples can be a lot more reliable. I've seen more than a few Perfect Bound books come apart shortly after purchase. Do the research and find someone who knows what they're doing!

Personally - I'm thinking of a nice looking spiral for any future books. I like my books to lie flat.

Corkbutt--Thanks,cause im' really torn between the two.I enjoy stapled comics cause their easy to open while reading without damaging the spine like a perfect bound book would. But since im' going to be self publishing this thing myself I really wanna play on the EXTRA sellability of the book.Like you said they think its 'published' and might think there getting a steal at 2.99 a book over some stapled 2.99 book.

And this is all considering they like whats inside of course,I just notice from the con's i've attended that people kinda consider their options alot because of a limited cash flow with so many goodies at every table. If thats the kicker that tips the bucket then great.

Like Trooper, I went with http://www.comixpress.com. It takes a long long time for them to print your comic, like two, three months or more but they have excellent customer service. And it's easy to setup. The quality's good.

New print customers can get %10 off inital order by using my referal code: JMAR911

And I might as well plug my books as well

Last time I looked into comixpress they were so backlogged they wouldn't even take new orders... but I hear they do good work. Probably why they were so backlogged.

I used a place in china called wa fai graphics. It was for my children's book and they do runs of 1000 or more.

Some books were fine and some had printing marks. It depends on how perfect you want them. Cause some of them weren't. But for the price it was someting I could live with.

Suprised noone mentioned Harold Buchholz http://www.icomics.com/hbps/

It is all-ages printing, but as long as you don't have any objectionable material in there, the prices are very good.

Well shucks. Does anyone know a POD place that DOES accept objectionable material?

ComiXpress

Postby Nosfera2 » Wed Aug 23, 2006 9:06 am

Just thought I'd add my two bits... I recently self-published a 48-page black and white comic through ComiXpress and thought they did a great job. I was looking to (quickly) print a sharp-looking, professional-quality book and that's just what I got back. It only took about four weeks from the time I sent them my files to the time I got the comics delivered to my doorstep.

Anyway... I'd definitely recommend the ComiXpress guys for anyone serious about getting a nice self-published book done. (Oh, and thanks to Gau Dog, who posted the 10 % discount code... that came in handy)

I've used CafePress for some books. They're not cost exxective for floppies, but I like the overall quality for Trades. But nobody beets Lulu for perfect bound, and while it's a bit more expensive, you can even do color trades that looke REALLY nice.

And if you want a decent, but still small print run rather than Print on Demand, Brenner has adjusted their print run ammounts and prices to compete with the smaller POD services and they, of course, have EXCELLENT quality.

comixpress is soooooooo slow... I put in an order for 100 copies of 5 different comics and they took between 2 1/2 to 3 months to finally get them to me (after a dozen "where are my comic?" emails)... .then after I got them, they sent me an email that said "oops our numbers show we shorted your order by 3 comics... we're sending them to you today)"

I'm currently trying http://www.ka-blam.com/ they seem much more helpful, their site seems tighter and they're hooked up with Indyplanet.com for selling online w/print on demand.

I haven't got my Ka-Blam comics just yet, so I'll get back to you guys on that but their online queue says it's getting close to my turn to print.

later,
~Danny

I used Comixpress last November and they were awesome! Very fast and very helpful. Fast forward a 4 months...I put in a new order...and nothing. No "sorry we're slammed, we'll get to your comic in a few weeks" no information at all. I probably won't ever use them again.

I'm also trying Ka-Blam so far they've been great. But I haven't recieved my shipment yet I'll give my full review then. But I love the forum they have and the queue is a brilliant idea....I like to know where I'm at in the process.
