Jam 26: Cosmic

Postby em... » Tue Jan 31, 2006 4:47 pm

This month we celebrate those characters who come from distant planets, or those who adventures take place in the far flung reaches of space; in galaxies far, far, away; beyond the final frontier etc etc...

To start of a biro sketch of a character from Mike Baron and Steve Rude's Nexus - Dave of Thune:

and a doodle of, arguably, the greatest space hero of them all, Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon:

em... - I'm not familiar with Nexus, but it is a very nice portrait, and your Flash Gordon is excellent.
Toonimator - that Wickett is fantastic. I love his face, and your thick, bold lines.
lil scamp - I particularly like the background of your Yoda. It compliments the character very nicely.

I have drawn Prot of K-Pax.

em...: Very cool Flash Gordon. FLASH! WoooOOahh...he'll save every one of us!

Toonimator: I want that on a t-shirt...

lil scamp: Great Yoda! He looks confused...

jc_pawz: Nice! Lobo used to be one of my favorite comic characters, back when Geffen was drawing him.

michaelpatrick: Congrats! Wouldn't have thought of that...you should do the robot maid from Spaceballs next. hehe.

porcelain: hahaha..Kevin Spacey. Fantastic!

That Prot drawing is great, really nice style. And that Martian Manhunter looks pretty cool, I was going to draw him too, but decided on an old tv character:

em...
nice take on the Nexus character (I actually cannot remember his name!)
and a little insight for those not familiar with him, he is from Nexus, which I am not all sure about where exactly it has been published, but Nexus is created by Steve "The Dude" Rude and will be in publication again under Steve's self-published line.
Also nice take on Flash Gordon, which is my favorite of the two...
Forgive me, but it is early and I already forgot whom posted (other than em...)
Wicket is wonderful, and it seems as if by some chance the style would coincide with his fellow Star Wars personnel...Yoda. Both depicted in a style that can be fitting (since both have also made an appearance in cartoons...)
Lobo is one character I enjoy, even though I do not really per-say have any of his books.
The Martian Manhunter image is fabulous...wish he had an ongoing with the way you presented him...
Not sure who the other two are...
These are great interpetations, and this sticky seems to be off on a good start.
Funny, but I didn't realize that this was the theme and I have a sketch of TWO characters that can be considered cosmic...so I guess I will have to finish it up and post it here....although I think I'll finish it totally off with color.
Once more, great job everyone...

OK, I was inspired by the first post. I drew a pencil sketch, and did all the rest in Illustrator.
It's my first fully vector pic. Yay me!

Alright, let's do this.

em... - I love Flash Gordon, I'm not familiar with Nexus, but both of those are amazing.
Toonimator - great indeed! yub yub.
lil scamp - Awesome tooned-out Yoda!
jc_pawz - Nice. I only have like 3 books with Lobo in 'em, but he's an okay guy.
michaelpatrick - Cool! I do a mean Twiki. Which means my Captain Caveman isn't half bad either.
porcelain - You've somehow managed to make that movie appealing to me. Nice work!
zombotomy - Awesome Manhunter. He's scaring the crap out of me!
charles - Lookin' good. I wish I could say that I've seen that series; it sounds cool. Do you know of any way I could get my hands on it?
Global Nihilism - Wicked. Really moody.
cooters - Sweet work. You should post more.
steve-O - Now that's just plain cool! I really need to check out this Nexus.

If I missed you, I grant you permission to kick my ass.

I'm not very good at capturing likenesses, but this is supposed to be Richard Benjamin's Adam Quark. I hope interstellar garbage collectors count as superheroes.
