Help posting pictures

Postby Boldtman » Sun Dec 18, 2005 5:41 pm

Hello everyone. Just wanted to say this is a really great board. I am rather new here, and just posted a couple of my first pics in the sketches forum's Wild west thread. But the images end up huge.

I took a look but couldn't find anything on image posting size. So what sizes of pictures/file types/size should I be using?

Thanks for the help.

The general rule is if you have to scroll to view the image you posted, it's too big. Use image software such as Photoshop to reduce the size of your image. Or rescan it at a size suitable for the web (72 dpi is good).

Ok, I understand about the resizing part. So you are saying about 72dpi. What dimentions do you normally post your image at. Rather than just a dpi rate, I am used to a size restriction like 1200x1600pixels or something. Or does just making your image 72 dpi work for most of you?

I usually don't post anything bigger than around 500 pixels high or wide (or less) at 72 dpi... I figure this typically fits the image on most monitors without scrolling. Basically, if you can view the image on your own monitor at 100% without scrolling it's a safe bet it'll work. Not every picture has to be as big as possible to get a feel for it... use common sense.

Hope this helps...
