Jack Thompson interview

An interesting with Florida attorney, Jack Thompson, who's been in the spotlight fighting aganst Grand Theft Auto and Sims 2. It's 80 minutes long..... definitely hard to sit through.

To Sum it up, he basically wants to push the whole Large Sticker on video games like what's being pushed in California right now

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6135476.html

His stance is pretty much that he feels the video game industry is as underhanded trying to lie to the public and slip in deceptive features into video game to corrupt our nation's youth. Although he's the kind of person who wants to illustrate the most horrible worst case scenarios onto people's mind in order to scare them into fallowing him.

Personally I think this is also a negative impact of last years success of M Rated game in video game sales like GTA-SA, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, and Metal Gear Solid 3. Still the interview with him is very interesting.

Backlash on him has already started from the National Institute on Media and the Family (NIMF) which he quotes so often.

lol
look on the bright side Jack Thompson isn't attacking Super Mario Bros 1 for it's drug use in a children themed game. HEVENS FORBID he gets a hold of Katamari Damacy!!

"Penny Arcade co-founders Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik have fired back, accusing Thompson of hypocrisy in kind. After learning that Thompson would not make any donations, the pair announced they have given $10,000 in his name to the Entertainment Software Association Foundation. The ESAF, which recently completed a charity auction, pledges monetary support to such philanthropic causes as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Child Welfare League of America. "

Its not even worth the industry biting back. Jack Thompson is obviously a senile old twat * whose fishing for a way of getting himself and his morals forced upon the public.
I find the legions of crappy licensed titles knocked out with little or no effort far more worrying.
He is saying nothing new, iIts an argument thats been around since the 8-bit days.

*allegedly..wouldnt want Herr Thompson suing my arse.

Looks like Mike is trying to get sued by the guy. He contacted them saying their story was false and defamatory and told them to take it down. They haven't :D .

I don't know, I mean he went after you, you would receive something a little bit like this

You know, for an attorney, he's not doing a good job. The whole him and Penny-Arcade is hysterical

I would be surprised if this man makes it by the end of the year.

then again, these picketers never seem to give up....... so he might still be protesting the latest music CD while on life support. His tactics remind me a lot of going up aganst the Tobaco industry and Gun manufactures instead of the individuals who do the crime or suffer the consiquece....... Now I don't mean that playing GTA is the same effect as smoking a chemical enhance Malbro cigarette, but listening to Jack Thompson interview and reading about him, that's how he feels he is
"You need to relax, Jack Thompson is not going to destroy the video game industry."

Actually Thompson makes comments about McCarthy-ism, and saying that this isn't anything like this. Saying how "Your generation doesn't get it. My generation had vietnam and watergate. We understood when an organisation got to powerful the people had to step right up and put a stop to is." And every now and then he stands up and says "You know anything about McCarthy-ism. I've studied it, I know what it is." and of course he always throws in a Hellen Lovejoy from the Simpsons quote "Will someone please think of the children."
He keeps praising Hillary Clinton as the second coming, but considering how Thompson is in in the spotlight I can see her disconnecting with him. Although I wonder if this is even a hot topic for a campaign or will it fizzel out by the 2008 election?
