I am envious as hell of your skill with a brush, that' s something I could never get a handle on. Top notch business, over here.

More goodies :D
SO which one did they put on the book? The second one or all of them? (as they should
be) Love those studies and the horror vibe in the last one too.
Great stuff, my friend :D (I right clicked and saved earlier ;))

Big fan

CosmicPencil: Thanks, Matt. Well, they seemed to like my pin-up over at TMP. Maybe it will lead to more work. I hope. The thought of bringing a whole different style to an established character like Spawn is really intriguing to me. Here's an old Funny Picture Stories cover with The Clock: http://cache.tias.com/stores/metropolis ... n5.40a.jpg He was the first masked character in comics.
Kaligula: Thanks a lot. I only started with a brush (and crowquill pen) about two years ago. I avoided it for the longest time. But once I got over that and actually gave it some serious practice, I found that It wasn't nearly as impossible as I'd built it up to be. So it was just a matter of sticking with it despite some early crappy drawings. And in the end, I think, I found the drawing tool that was most natural to me.
TheRonin: No, I haven't posted the pin-up they used yet... but I will now-

Here's the Spawn #149 pin-up:

Sorry Hack, it's a different guy.(The Clock that is)
Although I am getting to the point of realizing that you probably know each and every pulp character out there.
Still like your version of Spawn. I guess it is the "grit" of the image that kinda symbolizes my passion for your version of Spawn. Because Spawn should be dark and gritty, like what Ashley Wood did with Sam and Twitch.
I can only hope that the pin-up will lead to more work...you definately deserve it.

I'm not a fan of Spawn as a rule - the only Spawn comics I own are the two Spawn/Batman crossovers (bought because of Frank Miller and Klaus Janson) and a couple of Ashley Wood drawn issues.

I think it's been mainly the art styles that have turned me off from giving it a try (I really don't like MacFarlane's drawing style one bit), but I would definitely buy it if it were drawn like this, Robert.

Hack, I am very impressed with your work! Do you photoshop your zipotones or are those done the old-fashioned way? I have been trying to get a handle on it and have had mixed results.

just because of your beautiful piece, my friend :)

CosmicPencil: Thanks, Matt. Well, I certainly don't know every old comics character but I've been reading Golden Age comics since I was a very young so some of it sticks.
em...: Thanks. And here's the odd thing- my version of Spawn was art directed by McFarlane himself. I was sent scans of print-outs that he touched up with a blue marker showing changes I should make to keep Spawn on model. Some of them were very slight but the finished product turned out pretty well.
JJ Harrison: Thank you. It's all real zipatone done on the actual page.
TheRonin: It printed fairly well, I think. They kept it in black and white so it looks even stranger in a Spawn comic. Thanks, Francesco.
