Using the 'Save for web' feature automatically takes the dpi down to 72... The optimize options in the top right of the window can be taken down as far as possible, to the point where it won't decrease visual quality.

Also, you can use the little 'Image Size' tab on the right of the 'Save for Web' pop-up to adjust the size to a reasonable one - by pixels or by %.

A tip on fixing colour if it alters a bit on the 'Save for Web' preview... the tiny little arrow directly above the preview window on the right, when clicked, will give you a whole whack of colour options. I forget what I use mostly, but those options will allow you to get the true colour you mean to acheive.

Every option possible can be achieved in the Save for Web pop-up window. This way you can save your ass because you don't have to shrink your 600dpi working file in order to save for the web, then accidentally hit 'save' and lose your work...

If I didn't turn off Constrain Proportions it shrunk the pixel size thus making the art too small.

Yeah, but then you can just change the pixel size back to the original size, which shouldn't change the dpi, before hitting OK.

I agree, I don't think the Constrain proportions should be turned off...

I'm so sick of this thread. :)

Look. If you post an image and it appears on screen like this:
Image

We'll hang you by your toes and whip you with poodles.
So to avoid uneccesary poodle harm, take your image back into your picture editing software - and just keep hitting buttons until it looks like this:

Anyone but a poodle could figure it out.

Try a'hootin' and a'hollerin'.

Sometimes that works.

Or get her drunk.

As both Rick and Corkbutt said, do it whatever way you want. I just posted a way for Yangge that might be simple so we didn't have to wait forever to see his art.

Right, but Yannge's problem is his server all the way on the other side o' the globe. His images are just fine.

I derailed from this thread when Corbett mentioned the pixel size of his unit...

Which brings up an interesting question, though. 72 ppi is Mac screen res. Windows uses 96, which would made your penis smaller on a Windows machine. And the new screens from Apple are actually built at a native res of 100 ppi, so it would be even smaller...

And there are screens out there that are 200 ppi, I believe.

So...I guess, only date Mac girls, huh?

ps. My head hurts now. Thanks. :-)

Well - "smaller" is a relative term.

It might appear smaller on a Windows machine - but it still requires a Cinema Display.

I second the motion for keeping this as a "sticky" topic (no pun intended, what with all the talk of genital size); I haven't posted that many images but find myself having to fiddle with the file size in order to get them to post correctly without exceeding the bandwith limit here.

But I'll consult with the tips above the next time I do. Thanks!

(hmm... sticky... fiddle... tips... this board is really headed for the gutter.)
