Jam 11 - Mecha Month

Postby em... » Mon Nov 01, 2004 12:11 am

This month is Mecha Month - the title says it all. Robots, androids, cyborgs
- if it's metallic, it's in. If anyone even feels like doing gadgets and
vehicles, then that's alright too.

To start, from wildCATS, Maxine Manchester AKA Ladytron:

Hi folks, I finished this off about a week ago. If I hadn't had the intention of putting on this thread I probably would have never got it finished! It's my own design, I'll try and post some more recognisable characters; if time is on my side!

Great looking piece Euan, master of the pencil portrait!.The tonal work is awesome. :)

euan
another great choice and another kick-ass drawing from you.
love the tonals on that one....the bouncing light from behind became your signature.
you know how to light a character and i'm very sensible to that...now, i know it's gonna sound bad the way i'm gonna put it, but i really would like to see more experiment with the way you light a character...cause i think it will be mind blowing just the same while exploring different moods.
hoow! now it sounds like a crit ...i assure you it's not.

RodGuen - Cheers. I hate you too  You gonna do something this month? I've never seen anything mechanical from you; Nick - Really spectacular work. Beautifully rendered; booga - Thanks, Olivier. You're right of course - I do need to try a little more variation in lighting effects; me am bizarro - Cool stuff. I really like your take on Threepio and Artoo. I was thinking of doing them myself, but I may keep it until a Star Wars jam when the next movie comes out (May 2005, I think)

Cool thread. Here's a Trap Jaw I started tonight. I'm gonna have to fix some of the inking in ai and hopefully get a colored piece done this week.

Drew this a number of months ago, but it's still one of my faves due to it's subject matter. The live-action Japanese Spider-man and his giant robot Leopardon!

i like art - Cute and very effective designs; Cornflakekid - I imagine an entire city block suffering from a power shortage due to this guy :D ; spideyman - A sad and melancholy 'bot, playing with his joystick. Very emotive; borism - Fun pic. I have to know - what's he having for breakfast? VoteQuimby - Excellent Trap Jaw. Look forward to the finished piece; JR, Monsterboy - Nice work on your pic. You've done a really good job on getting across the sense of scale between the two characters; polarity - Totally adorable. There is so much about this that is great - the cute girl, the robot aping her pose, the other 'bot fainting.
