Even though its us running the show, and the board is an extension of the sketchbooksessions site. I don't want anything to change on the board except make it easier to promote and a independant site ans well as part of sketchbooksessions.

There's no much to talk about sketchbooksessions to call it the "Sketchbooksessions" board, this forum is more all encompassing. So if there are no objections, i'll get the new name.

http://www.sketchbooksessions.com/shanesboard AND
http://www.drawingboard.org

will redirect to

http://www.sketchbooksessions.com/thedrawingboard

or something like that.

Cool?

Hmm, this is more complex than I'd thought. I see two major alternatives:

(1) Sketchbook Sessions *IS* The Drawing Board. The board and the LA sketching crew are one and the same. The SBS site exists to promote the LA crew and its products. The site already refers to the drawing board as its forum. A vanity domain can be bought to redirect traffic, but it may be easier to advertise "sketchbooksessions.com" and have people find the forum link there because all links go to "sketchbooksessions.com". The URL is modified to remove "shane" to finalize the change of ownership. The forum is the last link on the second page of the SBS site, and under this scheme, the forum remains a minor part of it.

(2) Sketchbook Sessions *ISN'T* The Drawing Board -- the board and the LA crew are separate political entities. A domain called "drawingboard.org" is bought and all board stuff is moved there. Under this scheme, the drawing board site is totally separate from the SBS site, other than the "courtesy of" links. Each site can grow and evolve to meet its group's needs.

I prefer the second option. We have two groups with different agendas and leaders. Sketchbook Sessions is a group of LA artists meeting at Shane Corn's house which have a printed portfolio used to solicit work. The board is an international contingent where most of the admins aren't part of the LA sketching crew. As each group grows larger, there's a greater chance for problems because what's good for one group is not always good for the other. I obviously have much respect for Rick, Rob and the SBS -- I'm just trying to point out that the path we've been on isn't necessarily the best one for both groups.

Correct, Even though the site is hosted by the same same server, and controlled by the same people, they have 2 separate agendas. One is a huge community, and one is more of a local group, for sketching

I'm not going to start promoting SBS stuff on this site other than the usual ways that anyone registered member can do. The SBS link on the top is all. Anyone can promote and discuss, no preference is given to SBS agendas over another group. Any privileged promoting will be done for TDB events and promotions only.

When I get home tonight I'll start the task of changing the "shanesboard" to "thedrawingboard" first, the we'll go on from there.

i have a stupid question in regards to this. i know that Shane has his own new board at Cartoonretro and has changed to just being a member for over a year. Has Shane asked that the name of the board be changed because the confusion that he might still own the board?

So, what was wrong with "TheDrawingBoard.net?"
That makes more sense to me.
No one ever calls this forum "drawing board." It's always called "the drawing board."

thedrawingboard.net is available for purchase.......

Sorry I'm late to the party, here. :P
