Robert Mcginnis panel at Comic Con...

Postby patrickg » Fri Jul 30, 2004 11:32 am

At comic-con this past weekend there was a panel presenting some clips of the new documentary on Robert Mcginnis. Sadly, I wasn't able to attend the panel, but was wondering if any of you did? I'm really interested to know if this documentary is any good, considering Mcginnis is one of my heroes.

Thanks

Here's what I wrote about it on the Cartoonretro forum

"Saturday I went to a 30 min screening of the Robert Mcginnis Documentary...really cool. I can't wait for this thing to come out. check out

theillustratorstv.com (when it's up and running)

for more info on the documentary..he said the site should be up during the second week of August. From what I saw the documentary is really comprehensive, the director/filmmaker said it wouldn't be out until or after Feb. of 2005. He plans on doing a series of documentarys on illustrators or on genres of Illustration. Possibly one on Howard Terpning or Bob Peak is up next."

The only other thing I have to add is that it was interesting to see his working method..it shows him mixing egg tempra paint...photgraphing a model...then projecting the photo and elogating her porportions and "mcginniscizing" her...then painting it. Once the guy gets the thing finished, I think it will be really good. It's very straightforwardly shot and presented...in contrast to that frazetta documentary that came out recently...and it may air on PBS at some point.

thanks for the update baldpenguin. It seems like it's been years since I first heard they were making this thing. I can't wait for it to hit.
