Bela Fleck

Postby Commander Obvious » Fri Jul 16, 2004 3:04 am

I've been the proud if somewhat uninformed owner of a double-cd set of pure musical genius by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones called "Live Art." But I don't know anything else about his stuff. I once saw a few clips from a special he was in on public television and it seemed a shame that I don't know more about him or his stuff.

Anybody got any good recommendations? Links? Insults for my obscure taste in music?

I've actually had the pleasure of seeing Bela Fleck and the Flecktones live and in concert. They were part of a Rick Skaggs Pickin Party performance held at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. Awesome stuff.

Not sure if you know this but Bela used to be part of a band called the New Grass Revival. Sam Bush was the lead singer and mandolin player. Absolutely amazing music. With Sams voice and Bela bustin it....they were just incredible. I say they "were", obviously, because they've been disbanded for years. (total bummer). But you should be able to find some compilation CDs. I know they released one because I have it. Its called "Best of New Grass Revival". As a matter of fact I think I will put it in right now. Just what i needed. :)

Anyway, I hope that was info that you didn't already have.

I caught Bella and the Flecktones on Bonaroo DVD, having never heard much about them before, and I was blown away. They are incredibly talented.
After seeing that I picked up a 3 CD set they have called "Little Worlds". It's a good grouping of songs with various styles and some great guest artists such as Derek Trucks. You might give it a try.
