This may come as a major shock and surprise to some of you, but that is far from the first false thing CNN has aired

Yes, i've even seen them lable germany as irak. I wonder if that was some kind of political statement because germany was against the war.

We europeans often laugh about the little geographical knowledge that americans have of europe, but most of us couldn't label or even name all 50 states of the US either (actually I wonder if americans can do that themselves, so many states, so little difference between them). I've even seen a german who thought that Geneva was the capitol of Paris!!!
But of course this type of thing shouldn't ever happen to a channel like CNN.

Sad....It's no excuse but it might have been due to a tight work schedule there at CNN. It does bring to mind a relevant saying I read once...."War is God's way of teaching Americans geography."

Me in Brazil (to help you with geography my country is on South America duh! dont say!)
we recieve lots of American tourists and they often refer our capitol as Buenos Aires which ever was capitol of Argentina. Note that USA is practically our neighboor. You can imagine what they know about Asia, Oceania and Africa.

A FMI representative (I dont remeber the name ATM) when visited Rio de Janeiro saw the Niteroi island and asked the guide: -Is it there Brasilia?
Well, Brasilia far away from Rio. Its more than 1000 miles from there. Without mention its a city, not an island.

I swear. I dont know what they do at school.

CNN went from being a semi-impartial news organization to a government-run propaganda machine.

I'm certainly no fan of CNN, but I am a little suspicious of this "goof". Seems like photo trickery to me. First, its weird that someone would set up a video camera to tape their tv screen that way. If you are going to record CNN, why not just use a VCR? And then they happened to make this strange recording at the exact time that this goof aired?

My guess is that someone set this up as a hoax and then manipulated the image in Photoshop. But I could be wrong.

I don't think it was mentioned anywhere that it was a video recording. Looks like someone just snapped a picture of a tv screen with his/her camera when they noticed the error. Sounds reasonable.

If it was a VCR recording, it would even be more suspicious. How many people have blank tapes sitting in their VCRs ready for recording?

Cedricstudio, you're definately wrong, because these mishaps have also been reported on german TV. That's where i've seen them first. Bad luck for CNN, something like that just doesn't go unnoticed in the world. Although you always have to be suspicious on the net, and many things really are fake, this one is real. Speaking of fakes, do you know if http://www.meatshake.com/ and http://www.petsorfood.com/ are serious companies or hoaxes?

Not sure about the meatshakes, but I'm guessing petsorfood a phony site set up by vegetarians. Am I right?
