2D Animation Software?

Postby MunkyWorks » Wed Aug 20, 2003 10:01 am

Are there any professional 2D apps for Mac OS X? What is used for ink and paint now since nobody really uses cels anymore?

A PC.

I'm not sure what apps are even available for Mac. Animation Nationers keep clamoring for DigiCel to get a Mac version out, which I think they're working on. Otherwise, no clue. PC, there's Toonz, DigiCel, and others.

Heh-heh... screw that!
I'd rather do it in Flash and export it as a Quicktime or try to composite the art in After Effects. Windows gives me the creeps...

Thanks for the info though!

I guess you could use Painter 8. Not really sure about earlier versions, but in 8, you can create animated movies. Good luck cracking it...I mean, uh, never mind.

Actually, I think Flash and Illustrator is your best bet if you want vector. Then composite in After Effects like you planned. You get rack focus, 3D space, multiplaning, etc...

I've already turned my Painter 8 Demo into a "full featured evaluation".

:P

My big gripe about Painter 8 is that it's a HUGE resource hog. Doing anything hi-res is actually painful. Hopefully I will have my dual 2ghz G5 before the year is over...

Thanks Wpilot!

Since I'm doing stuff for myself I think I may have to "rough it" and do the characters in Illustrator and composite elements in After Effects.
